Notice how everyone is using emotional and sarcastic arguments against this article, and not addressing the points made? Typical. I predict a "what liberties have you lost" within 10 posts.

Exactly, ridicule is a great tactic to silence people you don't agree with. If sub-machine gun toting police, road blocks, body cavity searches, face recognition cameras, financial surveillance, data mining, gunowner databases and other little thing like that don't bother you or you think they are a fair exchange for "safety" you're blind or foolish.

Today I was listening to "Which Way LA" on Los Angeles' major PBS station.
Stephen Brill (who recently wrote a book having to do with post 9-11 security) was
defending the Patriot Act from critcism by another guest (sorry, I didn't get the
name...Gerlich or something like that).
Finally Brill asked the critic "Have you read The Patriot Act?"
The critic, to his credit, said "No".
My point is that The Patriot Act is about like a new controversial movie.
Lots of people either love it or hate it...and probably most haven't actually read/seen it.
