Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon is in a drug induced coma and the next 24-48 hours are critical to determining his survival, doctors at Northwestern Medical Hospital said after the Governor underwent brain surgery.
Dr. Wesley Yapor, the neurosurgeon who headed the surgical team, said blood was removed from both side of the Governor's brain.
The source of the major bleeding appeared to be a stroke, Yapor said, but some other blood appeared to be caused by a fall.

Frankly, I don't think it would matter whether Kernan were serving as governor through succession in the race next year. If IN finally, after having a Democrat run the state since Dukakis lost his bid for the WH, wants to stop the brain drain, bring in new industries and jobs, improve the quality of public education, and provide for tax relief for the state's families, they'll elect a Republican-- probably Mitch Daniels, if that's how the primary goes. A state that would vote for Dan Quayle-- and vote GOP for president since 1968 even during the lean years-- should be a state that would vote for Mitch Daniels.

And what reason do have to think that Mitch Daniels will NOT be the next governor of Indiana?

And let the idiots on DUhhh do whatever they want. Ever seen the way the speak of President ReaganThe DUers recently had a thread speculating that W. will murder Reagan before the election, to get a sympathy bounce off the funeral. Those "people" are nuts.

Let's just hope the GOP remembers that there's a delicate balance between a political rally and a memorial gathering.
Prayers for the governor's family for strength.

I don't think it's necessarily impolite to bring up the subject. Succession can have serious consequences. Had Clinton resigned, Gore would probably be president now-- and how bad would that be? If we believe that there is significance to holding office and implementing policy, there's significance to the turns of events that bring about being elected to office.
9/11 clearly had positive political implications for Bush. He was about to dip below 50% job approval days before 9/11-- and after that, he's been riding high. We wouldn't have done so well in November without that boost to his job approval.

Their conspiracy theories are out there. What freaks me out is how so many of them seem to actually believe them.
I'm a firm believer in the simple fact that as many as 3 people can keep a secret...As long as two of them are dead.

I just thought it best to applogize. Too many people just look to pick fights. I thought it best to kill that opportunity.

I just thought it best to applogize. Too many people just look to pick fights. I thought it best to kill that opportunity. Haven't you learned by now that the SOP is "Deny, deny, deny," and "I guess we'll just have to win, then?" I know this thread is about the potential looming death of a human being, but it interestingly points out the difference between conservative behavior and liberal behavior when a conservative would rather back down and suffer ignoble comments while a liberal would use the death as an opportunity to rally the base a la Paul Wellstone.
I mean no offense to Broken Glass, BTW.

Those "people" are nuts. They more closely resemble quasi-religious fanatics (e.g. islamist extremists), IMO.

And you're going to pretend like you weren't thinking it?? Pretend all YOU want. Considering the situation, YOU and anyone that thinks like you are sick f'in' idividuals and to even question if I would sink to that level beyond my comprehension.

This is a moment for all to pray for Governor O'Bannon and his family. Death or incapacitation are the likely outcomes for him at this point. I know because my mother suffered a severe stroke from which she nearly died and has never fully recovered. His situation sounds worse.
We may not agree with his policies or praise his performance in office, but we should certainly recognize that O'Bannon has served the state of Indiana for many years. This service should be recognized.
We should all say a prayer for his recovery and for his family as they now suffer through this difficult time.

I ask again, if this man should pass, will the Dems be stupid enough to treat us to another Wellstone political rally/memorial?
To: anniegetyourgun
Not in Indiana. This is a conservative culture here for the most part. The funeral would be more like Strom Thurmond's, I think.
