Berkeleys homeless youth population has always been cyclical. The last boom was in 1999, a time merchants say was characterized by increased lawlessness. Hogwash. Everyone nows that there were NO homeless people anywhere in America while Clintoon was Prez.

Back in my day, dilemma wasn't defined as "any kind of problem."

Andy Ross of Codys Books wouldnt go that far, but he wondered if falling evening sales might be related to the youths who squat outside his shop. This poor guy. He has been so indoctrinated in political correctness he is afraid to say the truth. Of course, vagabonds in front of your store are keeping people away.
Housing is available only to those who can keep a job and stay off drugs, and Kunisawa said most balk at the offer, not realizing that when they hit 25 the special services will vanish.
Coddled till the age of 25. Un-frelling-believable.

It has never been this bad, said Doris Willingham, president of the Telegraph Area Association (TAA) and a 28-year neighborhood resident. "Aging drug-addled hippies decry current crop of young drug-addled hippies. Film at eleven."

About a minute later he yelled at a middle age woman passing by: Give me all your money or Ill blow your brains out. Around here, he'd last less than a second after saying something like that.

Publik said hes noticed more crack users on Telegraph recently and that many have come from outside Berkeley because they hear Berkeley crack is more potent.
Heh, couldn't have said it any better myself.

From the article: "We were in Fresno County and came here because we thought we might be able to get a job
and there are way more shelters."
If you build it they will come.

It would appear from the garbled message that there is some kind of connection problem here.

"her unblemished 19-year-old face",... "To her left sat Trek, an 18-year-old from Utah",... homeless kids in town to roughly 200, according to social service workers.
By that age some men have ruled empires, started a family, fought and died in wars, written musical masterpieces, or made great scientific discoveries. Just because these adults are listless doesn't mean we have to call them kids.

The problem is the homeless and those that support them see themselves as selves as self imposed mascots of the community. Poor souls that there for those that believe in Karma to give a quarter to in order to extract some good luck.
Do you see many homeless "advocates" having stores where their livelihood depends on their customers riddled with the homeless?
