Monday September 8, 11:07 am ET
WASHINGTON, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Details of the Federal Reserve Bank (News - Websites) of Kansas City's monthly manufacturing index, released on Monday. Following are the survey results: MANUFACTURING SURVEY Aug July Aug03/02 Expect 6 mos. Production 20 8 8 37 Shipments 16 7 11 38 New Orders 22 24 22 40 Backlog Orders 17 5 3 18 Number of employees 9 3 -8 23 Average workweek 18 4 9 11 Finished product prices -4 -5 1 10 Raw product prices 18 8 37 32 Capital expenditures N/A N/A 0 15 Inventory-materials -14 -6 -11 0 Inventory-finished goods -11 -12 -12 3 N/A - not available NOTES/HISTORICAL COMPARISONS The survey included 105 responses from manufacturing plants in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, northern New Mexico and western Missouri. The index is calculated by subtracting the percentage of total respondents reporting decreases from the percentage reporting increases. Index values greater than zero generally suggest expansion, while values less than zero indicate contraction, the Kansas City Fed said. The figures are not seasonally adjusted.
Except this data seems to have been removed from the report.
Mfg'rs continued to be squeezed between prices received and paid.
Seems many are having more workers work overtime perhaps and adding a few employees, and inventories shrank. They aren't convinced that new orders will continue and so they're allowing backlogs to grow and running leaner & meaner.
