in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, northern New
Mexico and western Missouri.
The index is calculated by subtracting the percentage of
total respondents reporting decreases from the percentage
reporting increases. Index values greater than zero generally
suggest expansion, while values less than zero indicate
contraction, the Kansas City Fed said.
The figures are not seasonally adjusted.

capital spending showed some continued signs of improvement

Except this data seems to have been removed from the report.

Mfg'rs continued to be squeezed between prices received and paid.

Seems many are having more workers work overtime perhaps and adding a few employees, and inventories shrank. They aren't convinced that new orders will continue and so they're allowing backlogs to grow and running leaner & meaner.
