There was a FReeper here, (apologies for not remembering his name) he went back to the Netherlands I believe, because his grandmother was dying. Too late. They put her to sleep. He says murder. I'd have to agree with him. Most elderly people would hang on until they saw their family member... I know my mother and I used to talk about how we loved our pets and put them to sleep if they were in pain or sick and how sad it was people had to suffer so. But now as an adult, I know they could have their pain eased... and I understand how easily euthanasia could get out of hand, so you just don't go there. Hitler started off the same way. Evil always works at making proposals sound so reasonable and kind. Then the mask is exposed... DEATH

The Netherlands has the advanced death culture already in place. Do we look to them to see where we are going, though? Nah, we already know it all in the medical field.

Lib, I ran across this really scary writing from about ten years ago about a head neuro at a major midwestern hospital. He told a story about a family with a very critical relative that they wanted to just let go, forgo the tubes and ICU/vent plans coming at them from the doc.

But he talked them into going ahead with the tubes, and said he promised them he would remove all the tubes ( and starve/dehydrate the person if needed, I suppose, since a lot of these people seem to be prone to breathing on their own after the vent is pulled) in six months if they wanted to then.

Six months is about the time that COBRA stops letting you go with their plan, and might fill the bill nicely for running out of insurance money about then too.
