[history]
A wealthy hotel magnate will soon be checking in to federal prison for up to 3 1/2 years after he owned up yesterday to his role in a staggering $32 million tax swindle.
Brett Tollman, whose multimillionaire father went on the lam last year after being charged as part of the scam, admitted in Manhattan federal court that he dodged $3.5 million in taxes while running his father's hotel chain.

Along with their business partners, the Tollmans once owned 50 Days Inn hotels across America, lived in lavish homes and drove around in luxury cars, the feds said......His father, Stanley Tollman, a high-society fixture, was first arrested in spring of last year on charges he helped defraud banks of more than $42 million by hiding assets and lying about his ability to pay bills......(and fled the US to evade justice). Gosh, I betcha the whole family is real "tolerant and compassionate," too.

Let's see. $42M swindle. Up to 3 1/2 years in prison. So, in other words, he gets about a year in a country club prison for...what? How much did he net? How much did he get fined? How can I get a piece of this action?
I hate these stories. There has to be more punishment than this...right?

Ken Lay? (Sniffle)Why Ken didn't know a darn thing about anything (sob).
If the truth be told, CEO Ken didn't even know he had a job with Enron.
Kenny's just a (sob) "victim."

If they were serious about deterrence they should have done at least 20 years

There has to be more punishment than this...right? Junk justice.
There's a huge investigation into corrupt Brooklyn Dimocrats buying and selling judgeships.
Wouldn't be surprised if the " Dim bug " hit Manhattan's judicial system.
Clearly, some judges have been bought off.

Where's the book, "How to make several million and only spend a few years in jail"? I'd gladly spend a few years there to retire.

I'm sure someone will come along and blame the stockholders, people in 401Ks who are more interested in getting Janie to band practice than the proxy vote in their mailbox.

That reminds me of the joke about an accountant who gets a jail term for a white collar crime. At sentencing, the judge rejects his request for probation, and sentences him to a 5 year term.
I can't tell the rest of it it on a public forum without getting banned, though, LOL.

Let's not rush to judgement.
Consider this: what would the Big Stupid Government have done with his money had they successfully stolen it to begin with? Pissed it away in a different way than he did? I fail to see the benefit; what would he have gotten from Big Stupid Government that would be worth the confiscation of his millions of dollars?
