Savage: McClintock 'Most Qualified'

Nationally syndicated talk radio host Michael Savage weighed in on the California governor's race, offering strong praise for State Sen. Tom McClintock.

The Republican McClintock was interviewed on Savage's show Thursday night and Savage praised the gubernatorial candidate as the "most qualified" to be governor.

Savage told McClintock that "without a doubt, you are the clear leader" among the 135 candidates in the race.

The nod by Savage may pay huge dividends for McClintock.

Savage has a large and growing audience among conservatives and independents. Savage has the fourth-largest syndicated radio audience in the U.S., with an even stronger reach in California.

For years Savage has been the ratings leader on San Francisco's KSFO. He is now heard on Bay area station KNEW. His voice is heard on high-powered radio stations in Los Angeles and San Diego, as well as dozens of smaller markets throughout the state.

McClintock said conservative grass-roots support has led to his phenomenal rise. Published polls have him in the double digits.

And there are signs that Republican support for Schwarzenegger may be hemorrhaging in the wake of scandal dislosures and a greater focus on his qualifications.

McClintock told Savage that a poll conducted by several statewide organizations had him in a statistical dead heat with Schwarzenegger and Democrat Cruz Bustamante.

Sounds like McClintock is gaining support. Maybe he has a better chance than I thought.

No, this is a thoughtful conservative that can't abide Savage's demogoguery.

Savage then went on to declare all those opposed to McClintock to be sodomites that should choke on a sausage, catch AIDS, and die . . .

I enjoy listening to Savage's program, but will his endorsement really help?

Coureously, there hasn't been a poll on the recall since August 25, and that one did have McClintock at double digits...11 percent.

I used to listen to Savage too. Entertaining, for the most part, and great to listen to if you're overflowing with rage. But he wears thin real fast.

I can't take Savage either, but even his endorsement of Tom couldn't make me change my mind about Rnold. The man has no clue what he wants to do, other than be governator.

I have listened to Savage on several occasions and although he comes off pretty rough, he has many good points. He does have a pretty large audience.

I am not from California, so I can't vote there, obviously, but I would have been inclined to support Arnold just on his ability to win. However, it looks to me like McClintock is making a good run for it.

Here's a tinfoil hat theory:

What if Arnold is only there to dilute the Republicans, hence pretty much handing a victory to Bustamente? McClintock would win for sure if Peter Uberoff (sp?) and Arnold dropped out.

How do you come to that conclusion? For the 1001 time. Arnold can win because of crossover Dem and independent votes. He can get people to actually get off their fat asses and vote. McClintock can't. And he won't. Let him keep talking, that's ok...talk about the illegal situation, the workmen's comp, etc. But he'd better drop out a few weeks before the election. If he doesn't, and Cruz wins because of a split vote, his career in Republican politics is through here in California.

The most qualified is the one who can lead the best, and attracts those with like minds and the uncommitted.A guy who has failed twice in statewide elections, and also failed to fill in the paperwork to get on the voter guide, isn't a model of a winning, highly qualified, successful candidate. He's just a no name career hack whose ego is blinding him to the need to take one for the party.

Time to give it up, Tommy, and do what's best for the party. This charade has gone on too long.

Would it suprise anyone if Tommy has been working on a deal with Dems to split the Pubby vote? He keeps this up and he is a political goner and he won't se a dime of party money ever again.Unless, he hopes to garner that dream job of managing the used car lot at Thousand Oaks Ford & Lincoln ;-)

How do you come to that conclusion?

I come to that conclusion on the basis that I think the Republican voter turnout will be huge. I don't think Dems are going to flock to the polls to keep Davis in. Therefore, I think the Republicans are in the driver's seat. If there is only one Republican with name recognition, I think that person will be a shoe-in. I think these guys should get together and pick one of them, whoever it is. As you point out (as did I), the vote will be diluted. Ego is the problem as it alway is with politicians and actors.

Based on what I have heard, I'd be more inclined to believe it of Arnold.

McClintock supporters want Bustamante to win because they believe it will hasten the collapse of society and then a new order can arise led by Pat Buchanan and Ross Perot, the patron Saints of weak Democrat candidates.

Coureously, there hasn't been a poll on the recall since August 25, and that one did have McClintock at double digits...11 percent.

That poll was statistically worthless because of the "special sauce" the LAT polling staff added.

Why did they add the special sauce?

Because they found out they had a bad sample to begin with.

In my statistics class, I was told that if you started with a bad sample, you were going to get bad results, no matter how much you fiddled with them.

So that poll is completely worthless.
