Yep...that's pretty close.

The east side Southbound (I-24) grade is the sharpest east of the Rockies...lots of runaway trucker sand stops off the shoulder.

It runs down for about 6 miles maybe pretty sharp towards Chattanooga.

Anyone beat this story?

Yup!

I was driving to NJ 2 years ago, passing thru CT on I-84.

I'm cruising at roughly 85-90, when I spot a CTSP car way ahead as we crested a hill. I move to the center lane and drop speed...

Whe all of a sudden I hear a HUGE roar, and my car is shaken as a Porsche 911/930 (could have been either) with a slant nose FLEW past me in the RIGHT lane at WAY over 120 mph!

He sees the left lane SP car too late and locked them up with a loud screech and a LOT o' fish-tailing and smoke!

Mr. Statie just calmy moves over behind him...paces him while he calls for backup and a tow...then light em up!

WE passed the Porsche with an Asian gentleman pounding the steering wheel and his mouth moving a mile a minute...

Had to do a Nelson "Ha-Ha" as I kept driving!

How's that?

Ok, I dislike the pansy French as much as any red blooded American. But I do think those old citroen's with the hydraulic (or was it pnuematic?) suspensions were realllllly cool looking (they kinda looked like a giant fly).

I wonder if any of our autobahn experts ever heard of one being suped up and kicking ass on the bahn?

those 911 Turbos are absolutely fast.

Once went cruising with a buddy engineer from crysler who had a loaner Dodge Viper for the day. Man, that thing really scared me. We're talking 60 mph in 2nd gear, on the streets of Detroit subburbs. Don't know how fast it was going, couldn't see the speedo, but to my mind, those are the best performing american production cars going. If I ever get me a Viper, my wimp days are over!!! I'll be out there just lookin for beamers, porches, and anything else to eat.

About 70-75 mph in a Triumph TR-10 station wagon in Georgia in the early 1960s. That was flat out. There was a little metal tag on the motor that said 10 horsepower.

The TR-10 was all I could afford in grad school.

The '66 Roadster was aquired when I was a senior at U of Iowa. A buddy in law school mentioned knowing a guy who wanted to sell his Jag. Good body but bad motor, he said.
The owner showed me the oil on the dipstick was gray and watery...cracked block, he said. I gave him $500 and took over payments at the bank.
Three weeks later I had the head off and confirmed my suspicion that it was strictly a blown head gasket. While I had the head off, I had the valves done and put new kits in all three carbs. The car ran perfectly for about four years afterward but gradually developed low oil pressure--probably from the overheating that blew the head gasket earlier. I sold it for a pittance and have wished several times that I had it back...

Everytime I see a Citroen....I think of memories of the Paris Peace Talks (oxymoron) on TV and how odd those cars looked.

I had a friend in Hastings UK who had an old CV2(?)....I think it was chain driven....does anyone know?

Suicide doors too I believe.

My wife and I saw one at Green Hills Mall a few weeks ago here. First thing she said was "what the hell is that?"

Wow...I'm bookmarking that Beck...interesting.

The original Porche 550 spyders used a lot of VW parts, and the Beck is very close to the original design, but has modern disk brakes, and 3 times the horsepower of the Porche. It also has a fiberglass body, which is not as sexy as aluminum, but sure is easier to repair.

I never liked the rear engined Porche. It is all too ready to switch ends in an emergency. The 550, 914 and Boxter mid-engine cars handle beautifully.

Lambo made a heavy duty SUV in the 70s. It was like a Land Rover with a V-12 engine. The Saudis bought most of them for Border Patrol Vehicles. They could handle the sand and then do 120 on the hard, all in airconditioned comfort. Of course they were also 125 grand.

You'll be eating porches, lightpoles, trees, moving violation citations. Why not just rent that old movie Bullet?

115 in a 35 zone, when I was 18...showing a guy in a Camaro how slow his car was compared to a 750 Honda 4.

I didn't realize how fast I was going until I looked down at the speedo...haven't driven faster than 75 since.

Are we posting maximum speeds?

138 MPH across Nebraska on the way to the 1966 US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen.

1961 Jaguar XK-150; 3.54 rear axle, 7.00-16 Dunlop R5s on the rear, 5500 RPM.

Middle of the night with four aircraft landing lights on the front bumper apron to light the way.

Shelby made a better deal...

As I recall, Chrysler offered the Tiger for a short period with the 273 hi-po

it would run for 12 months without any adjustment

Sigh. Lucky you! I had an XK-120 and an XK-150 and they broke almost weekly. Didn't matter if you drove them or not during that period. They broke as a function of time, not mileage.

There were four thumbscrews to make the dashboard easily removable. Necessary because the (Lucas) electrics and wiring routinely burned themselves to a crisp.

I thought they were prohibited in the US. Would be nice to find one. Getting parts to keep it running would be tough though.
