It wouldn't be that hard for them to build their own UNIX-like OS given how many coders are in China and how many people need good jobs.

I totally disagree. In fact on this point (only time, ever) I actually agree with Harr that government sponsored software "business" will ultimately be way to slow to keep up with the economy produced model. That is why it is so important we do not allow the "economy" (HP in this case) to support Red China's custom Linux.

I don't see Loral's executives facing long prison terms for giving them access to advanced rocket technology suitable for modern ICBMs.

So it's all fair game then? You'd take a piece of the action if available? Sounds like it.

It would be child's play for Chinese intelligence to infiltrate the factories and offices of these companies and copy our designs.

No it wouldn't. Not if people would start locking our doors instead of just giving our stuff away. Americans are so spoiled and take so much for granted. If you grew up in the poverty outside our borders you might better appreciate the riches that lie within them,

You seem to have a very naive view of the world in this respect.

Hardly. I understand and respect the history of mankind, and how one must protect and defend themselves from outsiders. The feel good crowd just wants to pass it around the room, just share it with everyone, but that's not the way the die hard real world works. Whether you are ever exposed to this truth or even experience it for yourself I cannot know. I can just tell you that is exists.

I do not believe in patents

You're worse than I thought. Guess China should just back the truck up to the US patent office and start loading in your perfect world.

I buy American when American products are good...Don't be one of those suckers who encourages them to become less competitive by disregarding product quality and buying simply because the company is American.

THERE, you admitted it. probably without even knowing it, or even recognizing it now. Buy you flat out admitted your own selfish comfort is more important to you than things like the security of our country. Truely sad that you probably consider yourself a Patriot. But the priority of your own selfish concerns show you have have little stomach for something so common to a true Patriot - sacrifice for the good of us all.

No not really. I had hoped that you could grasp the simple point that you're obsessing about an OS when really important technology has been or is being taken. Why don't you get off your high horse about Linux and get pissed off about Loral freely giving away their commercial rocket technology to the Chinese, or at least making it so easy for the taking that it was criminal.

No it wouldn't. Not if people would start locking our doors instead of just giving our stuff away. Americans are so spoiled and take so much for granted. If you grew up in the poverty outside our borders you might better appreciate the riches that lie within them,

Naive. So naive it's scary. If the PLA and Chinese Intel put operatives into those factories over time they can steal a few parts here, a few parts there off the assembly lines and figure out how to build our tech. They could easily do the same with software development companies. How do you know the PLA hasn't already gotten infiltrators in Microsoft's Chinese unit? Corporate security versus professional intelligence agents is a losing proposition for corporations.

You're worse than I thought. Guess China should just back the truck up to the US patent office and start loading in your perfect world.

This coming from someone who uses foreigner with such viciousness and disgust....

We shouldn't have even a fair trade agreement with China let alone a free trade agreement. Any country that uses slave labor and/or commits the number of human rights violations that they do should not be one of our trade partners.

Buy you flat out admitted your own selfish comfort is more important to you than things like the security of our country.

Capitalism and its accompanying political philosophies encourage selfishness and discourage altruism-the sacrifice of the self for others out of a sense of obligation whose basis in truth is ephemeral at best. I am not beholden to corporate American by sheer fact that I am an American citizen. Your kind is the antithesis of capitalism. You advocate voting with your wallet for products that are inferior just because they're American. Nowhere do you encourage rewarding a product because it is excellent, only because of the country of origin.

Truely sad that you probably consider yourself a Patriot.

This coming from someone who in so many posts has made no bones about how he considers foreigners to be the scum of the Earth when they compete against America.

But the priority of your own selfish concerns show you have have little stomach for something so common to a true Patriot - sacrifice for the good of us all.

And what if your good is consistently not my good? What you advocate is a slavish devotion to the collective wherein the individual consigns his or her desires and capabilities to whatever "the group" wants. It's ironic that you advocate such a perverted form of patriotism and yet condemn the Chinese. What you have advocated here is nothing less than the same collectivist mentality that keeps the Chicoms in power.
