"I got a lot of help from people in the organization who have promoted education for kids and who continue to do that. ... What I know is what they do."

Hitler helped a lot of people too. Mussolini made the trains run on time. Osama built schools and roads (according to Senator Patty Murray, at least.)

In America, those kids could get a college education without belonging to a subversive organization. To say that it is the only reason they did is rediculous.

I remember asking my Salvadoran lab partner about MEChA back in 1985, or so. We were studying for finals together. He also went to the MEChA cram sessions, but told me that I would not be allowed in. I'm pretty white-bread, you know.

He was somewhat uncomfortable with that, and allowed that MEChA was a bunch of racists, but the review course was good. He wasn't really happy about being involved with them, but needed their help to keep his grades up. He was all about the grades, so he did what he had to do.

But neither of us had any illusions about the nature of the MEChA organization.
