That is a very arrogant statement on your part. I for one supported the Pres. both with my time and my money. In return I get nothing. I don't want a liberal Democrat in the WH, but if having a Republican in the WH who runs on one agenda and then caves on every major issue is the alternative what's the difference? For years we have heard the difference is the judges we get, well guess what, we are still going to get the judges that Ted and Hillary want.

Who is going to nominate them? The last time I looked the only thing they can do is obstruct. This is a rough political climate, and timing is everything. President Bush is looking at a lot bigger picture then you are, and you should take a leaf out of his book. The odds that a SCOTUS nomination will come up in the next 2 yrs. are 100% This setback will be turned into a great victory, so do not lose your faith. This is a war for the heart and soul of this Country, and one battle does not lose the war. GWB and his team know exactly what they are doing, and the trap has been set!! Oh! by the way it is not arrogance to point out flawed thinking!

Hatch at times looked exhausted on the Senate floor during the debates

Well, Orrin is not getting any younger. He was most enthusiastic in supporting the clintoid nominees Ginsburg and Breyer in 1993 and 1994. He wanted to prove his "bipartisanship." What does UT see in him, I'll never understand?

When you can answer that you have been a Republican and supported Reagan (who BTW didn't get every nomination through he wanted and had to compromise), and have been an active volunteer in campaigns, then maybe people will listen.

Well, I was, and its people like you that support the PARTY at all cost instead of supporting CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES that are the problem with the republican party.

If you are really a conservative, support conservative candidates who have enough backbone to get the job done.

So far, on the domestic front, Bush & the Republican congressional leaders are a major failure

You all have to decide whether you really want a conservative government or if you are content to elect someone because they have an "R" by their name & the party bosses you suck up to tell you to vote for them

Like a wise man once said, A man who rides the fence gets nothing but a mighty sore crotch

Either vote on principles, or by party lines, but you cant always do both as long as there are people with lots of money & not so much principles that want to run (and ruin) eveyone elses lives

I did support Reagan, & worked for his campaign, and Bush isnt near the conservative he was, and Bush only has a fraction of Reagans willingness to stand up for his beliefs

And the current republican congressional leaders arent fit to run the county sanitation department

This is the Republican's fault- The big bunch of lazy louts- They just let the dems get away with this because they were TOO LAZY to make the dems filibuster for real, or to even explain to the American people what the dems were really up to .

I saw the local news. They reported this story as if Miguel Estrada was denied an appointemnt "because he was too conservative". NOTHING was mentioned about how he wasn't even given a chance - to get to the point in the process- where the Senate votes either for or against his appointment.

It would have taken effort for the pubbies to explain to people how the process works, but it could have been done.( They would have to avoid terms like "straight up or down vote"-trust me-these kinds of political/ technical terms confuse people. Most of us went to public schools- need I say more?)

It could have been explained to people, that the nominee is SUPPOSED to go before the Senate and then the senators vote either "Yes" or "No" and how many votes required exc...on weather a person is appointed to the judiciary or not. But Miguel Estrada was not even let in the door -so to speak.

The Republicans would have had plenty of time to get this point across if they made the dems do a genuine filibuster. It would have been given lots of press coverage .The dems would have been exposed for the hypocritical racists they are- on national TV- on a nightly basis. The dem "filibuster" would not have lasted long.

But , once again the Republicans blow a golden opportunity due to laziness/lack of will.

Didn't you people have a long enough vacation? How long were you in reccess?-a month or so?
(Not including President Bush here- He deserves his vacation-he has to deal with the whole world)

To you elected Republicans- The rest of us are lucky if we get 2 weeks off per year. We manage to do our jobs. Is it too much to ask you to do yours? You were elected to support and fight for Republican ideas. YOU WERE ELECTED BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT democrats. (Pssssssssssst- here's a clue for you-If the people wanted a democrat in your office- he or she would be sitting in your chair and you would be sitting at home)

Want to know why the country is "divided". It's because you Republicans don't talk to the people . You don't engage them. You don't say anything to them them that makes them think.

So, now "you're going to give the people what they want" like the Prescription Drug program for seniors? You claim people polled say they want this?

Why don't you ask the people this way: If you are in favor of a Presription Drug benefit for seniors at all; Do you want a program that:

A. Is based on income and is designed to help seniors who are unable to cover the costs for the drugs on their own.

or

B. A program paid for by the Federal Gov't- that will cover "everyone" but will
- take you out of your current Insurance plan coverage
-will chill incentives for research into new drugs by drug companies
- will have to be paid for out of the incomes of your children, grand children, and great grand children.

You Republicans have got to realize that the Socialist/democratic party /free ride/life is easy/ we'll take care of you/ leftist propaganda machine operates on a 24/7 basis. Tune into any newscast on the big three networks, or the Spanish stations for examples of this. Ask yourselves: How many people do not have Cable or Satellite access- these people vote too. Also consider that public schools / colleges give liberal ideas only.

If you're too lazy to make the effort required to challenge this-Please do us a favor and step down in the next election. Let people take your place who are at least willing to try and beat the dems in the arena of ideas.

This is an outrage. The Democrats should pay in the next election for this.

I agree it is an outrage … but it is those cowardly Republicans who will pay in the next election.

If this Daschle-Kennedy precedent is allowed to stand, then no practicing Catholic, no Orthodox Jew, and no Fundamentalist Christian is qualified for a Judicial appointment because of their religious beliefs – the Democrats will have effectively established Secularism ( the worship of government, the practice of abortion, etc.) as the official American Religion. With few exceptions, all government power holders will be Secularists.

Sometimes you take your losses and live to fight another day.

The Democrats would concur : “Republicans, So what if you are the majority … take your losses with Judicial nominees because that is an important Democrat perogative. We minority Democrats will then allow you to pass your important resolutions, like declaring July as Safe Boating Month.”

Actually, the Repubs do occasionally play hardball - how we played the redistricting in Texas

Governor Perry seems to be quite tough and willing to stick to his guns.

If the D.C. Circuit is short-staffed, one or more recess appointments are the obvious solution.

I've been out of the country for two weeks, so I'm just getting this sad news. We can only hope that the Republicans make political hay out of this as far as the Hispanic vote is concerned. Thanks for letting me know.
