I know this isn't your story, but I just gotta say...
The necessity of pre-marriage counseling (the kind to repair issues) is nature's way of saying "Don't get married to that person".
The last couple I know who married in spite of the above, well, let's just say my hangover lasted longer than the nuptials.

I know of several couples who credit "elective" premarital counselling with making them a stronger couple after the vows. Prolly depends on your motivations for going in the first place.

I completely agree with you. In the Catholic Church I attended while growing up in NE Mpls, the people conducting the pre-marital counseling (which all Catholics go through prior to marriage) would actually tell certain couples that they would not marry them because of glaring problems which already existed. While every couple goes through problems, both before and after marriage, if their problems are serious enough prior to marriage that a counselor is needed, they shouldn't be getting married (but then again, the counseling is probably because the idiots are living together already. That is just the absolute dumbest thing people do these days).
