martyr is an interesting word.

I doubt his sister even knows what a 'martyr' is. She's just repeating something she heard on TV recently.

I think we have to be careful not to be swayyed into this Columbian Collar bit. It sounds like it was an off the cuff remark that is being exploited.

The "creativity" of the collar is the better clue just as the "elaborately carved" boxes of the unabomber was a clue (which they witheld until after he was captured). Don't forget, it was the manifesto that lead to the unabomber and the FBI had great misgivings about releasing it to the public.

Release the damn 9 page letter. Just photograph the pages and post them. It won't ruin all your testing!! OR is there something in there that you don't want us to see?????

I heard he gave the name of the person who set the timer going to the police, but haven't heard anything else about that.

A bit off topic, but yesterday was a strange day. Did you know that yesterday was a multiple and divisable forward and backward? 3-3-9 and 9-3-3. Signifigant to goofs like me.....A very rare event.

The FBI is trying to drain all the ponds within a 50 mile radius of Erie. They found a big one and may be a bit busy getting it drained looking for key evidence.

The uniqueness of the devices suggests that "the individual or the individuals that may be associated with this are pretty skilled and independent-thinking,"

I think in police circles this kind of press release is called 'luring the suspect by appealing to his vanity'.

Investigators in high profile cases need to withhold certain information from the public. The main reason is that it enables them to quickly dismiss people who falsely claim to have committed the crime, or to have direct knwoledge of the crime, thus saving investigators from wasting time on wild goose chases. It also enables them to trick suspects who are being interviewed into revealing information that couldn't have known if they hadn't been involved in the crime -- not possible if all the details known to investigators have been released to the public through the media. Sometimes it also enables them to lead a key suspect into believing s/he isn't really a suspect, but just being interviewed as potentially having some information that would be helpful to the investigation -- helps keep them from fleeing while enough evidence is gathered to make it possible to hold them in custody.

We, the spectators, do NOT need to know all the details. We DO need the perp to be caught and locked up as quickly as possible, and this requires investigators to do there work without telling us everything.

Why was the guy at his brothers for a few months?? He had just RETURNED to this area a short while ago. His brother made no comment.

They said he didn't have a computer...but did he go to the library?? The phone call to the pizza place came from somewhere. Not traceable.

We're just being left in the dark. This stinks!!

Oh, I know that. I have my impatient days and my "curious" days. I've been diagnosed as having "Murder She Wrote" syndrome. :-)

Sure, if investigators are compelled to tell us everything they might have to explain why they want to drain Lake Erie. This will become the stuff of Richard Jewel, DB Cooper, Steven Hatfill, Ted Kazinsky, and Eric Rudolph.

The FBI has this way of making a suspect fit the budget. Once the FBI makes the local motel operators millionares, gets all the local waitresses pregnant, and turns the local phone company's wiring into a bird's nest, they'll declare the case solved. And of course draining all bodies of water is a given.........

Some very good ideas and speculation on the thread so far, but what I want to know is:

Where's John Doe #2?

Or even the movie Running Man. The prisoners had collars around their necks and if they ran past a certain mark the bomp exploded decapitating them.
