TOM Cruise, John Travolta, Lisa Marie Presley, Kirstie Alley, Juliette Lewis and other Scientologists may have signed away many of the rights that most Americans take for granted. As they move up into the higher levels of the Church of Scientology, members sign documents giving up their right to psychiatric care and to see their families.

Meaningless. No psychiatrist or medical person would sign such a document, and would probably be sued for attempting to honor it anyway.
Scientologists are scum.
Tommy D. Rocks! I got the album on vinyl, man. I saw him live once in Philly. Astronauts & Heretics is one of my favorite albums. Rock On, Dude! Whoooooooooooooooo!
Quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est.
If your modem works it is an accident, be glad (eat an m-and-m); telephone accidents happen.
:)
Ok whatever. I get your point that its a ridiculous story and impossible to believe; as if other religions dont believe in some ridiculous things? If thats all it is then why aren't you against all religions for their belief in god? Is that your only argument?
Here's the difference. I can walk into a Catholic Church, and in the space of an hour or so, hear all about their teachings and theology. If I then decide that the idea of actually consuming the flesh of Christ at Communion is a "ridiculous story", I can move along to another church looking for beliefs that better fit my belief system.
On the other hand, I don't even get to hear the whole "Xenu" garbage until I reach OT3. And that involves many years and many thousands of dollars. I'm never given the chance to examine the "theology" of Scientology because it is some sort of secret.
Do you see the IMMENSE difference?
Why should we believe his bios when he was a pathological liar?
As proof, could you give us a rundown of what you know to be his service in WW2?
Oh, please. It was sarcasm. You were whining "I think I'll remain independent" as though you wanted us to beg you to stay.
So fine, remain independent. That's no skin of my nose nor anyone else's. I'd say the same to anyone who whined the way you did.
I pointed out a clear logical inconsistency in your position. Something is WRONG with what you believe. Both "Xenu is a fabrication by anti-Scientologists" and "Documents about Xenu are copyrighted materials of the 'Church'" CANNOT be true at the same time.
1) Do you agree, yes or no, that these things cannot both be true at the same time? (Xenu is either part of Scientology, or he isn't, there is no middle ground)
2) Now, tell me, which side do you believe, this "Church" or the public records of a trial that took place in a public courthouse?
Operation Clambake has some truly frightening stories of what has happened to people who have crossed this cult.
IMHO, they're as bad as the insane death-cult of Islam.
But I have a very clear comprehension of the upper levels, and I've never had any first-person experience with the "basics."
I can also tell you that the Xenu story is central to Scientology. It explains the origin of "thetans," which (once you reach clear) you will spend all of your money trying to purge from your body. Every new level you advance to, they spring on you a new kind of "thetan" that you're supposed to get rid of (through their expensive treatments, of course). This goes on all the way up to at least OT8...
Here, I can help. Let me summarize this thread (so far): scientology is a ufo-cult. It is also a big load of crap. Hubbard was insane. It costs a lot of money. Most people leave the "church" after trying it. It is not in any way related to Science. Some people (for example, Lisa McPherson) have died while undergoing "counseling".
Any questions?
Funny.
Could you point to me to where Scientology admits that some of its teachings are secret? I very well may have missed it, but in all the reading I've done, I haven't seen it stated quite that way.
You can know what the end result is of each level but you dont get to know what the theory is until you get there. This is known and accepted. I'm not asking you to be a part of it or agree with it, I'm just asking you to respect us as people. You think it's garbage? Fine with me, I can yield to that opinion, but that opinion wont change how I feel.
If you somehow have to "condition" people to accept your teachings, there MUST be something wrong with them. You keep coming back to this "accepting" you, well, I don't care if you wrap yourselves in tinfiol and play Bee Gee's albums backwards waiting for the mother ship. Just don't expect us to pay for it by granting your "church" tax-exempt status. And when you CONTINUALLY harass your critics, don't expect them to go quietly.
You preach that the church is ripping people off left and right but the people who actually gave money to the church and went through the motions would have a more reliable opinion then you since they have the experience to tell.
No. By having a significant financial stake in the outcome, people are much more likely to give a good critique, that is just human nature. And let's get the terminology straight, people don't "give" or "donate" to the Co$ as they would in other churches, you are required to PAY for auditing services, despite the fact they are called "donations". Yet another reason Scientology cannot be called a religion.
Not only that - the "theology" of Scientology is explained in Scientology basics. So you get to know plenty of applicable "theology" before you get to OT 3.
I'm not talking "basics", I'm talking SPECIFICS. Apparently they have something to hide, and knowing the whole story, I can see why.
