"A dog works wonders on these types. Mine is a very friendly choc. lab, but her size intimidates strangers. They back off very quickly. Little do they know that if I let her loose on them, she would just lick them to death!"

We have three dogs, but the real Mr. ADT is our ChowChow. At 7 years old, he's TINY - only 39 pounds - but he can be FEROCIOUS to anyone who doesn't belong here. In the absence of the glass storm door, Romeo(that's his name - and well-deserved) was ready to chew the UPS man a new one yesterday.

I am intimidated just thinking about the two boxers, especially the big guy. I do find that even just the bark, drives people away from the front door. I can't imaging any one stupid enough to trespass on your property with two viscous sounding barks on the other side of the door! My beleif is that a good dog is the best home security available.

YAY for the good guys. I hope my wife will defend me when some female saleslady tries the same.

Shouldn't you be busy doing mortgages or something?

Glad to hear that you're a dog man, too. Nothing like 'em for love, loyalty, companionship and entertainment. Not to mention protection.

"My thoughts exactly."

Mine too. Even though the salesman was a cad, taking his whoopin like a man and not pressing charges at least was a little redeeming.

I answer the door accompanied by a large cranky dog with very large teeth. Salesmen and other trash quickly find an urge to be elsewhere.

The 85 lb boxer is one of the most intimidating dogs I have ever seen. And he really does not like strangers. When we first got him we lived in a not so nice section of town and had section 8 housing next to our townhome. He was never trained to be quiet and behave when somone came to the door. It is common for people coming to the door to sell stuff to step back from the door about 20 feet and try to talk to me from there.

When I have a party I often take him to my parents house for the night to avoid his having to encounter strangers. The small one (Maggie) is harmeless though and would be the worst guard dog on the planet if she ever had to defend the home. She loves everyone and all she wants is love and attention and will jump up and hug and lick anyone she can.

Constitution Day and Mykdsmom met her at recent party at my house. The large boxer (male), Clubber, was at my parents that night. He has cancer though and may not be around much longer. And he is only 5! And with our first baby due at the end of December it may be a while before he can be replaced. Hopefully the drugs will help him and he will be around for many years. But with Boxers cancer is a common thing and something you have to expect if you have them.

No, read my comment number one, I'm speaking from experience. We have been periodically plagued with these salepeople for several years now, as are many of our friends and neighbors.

Also, Clubber, the 85 lb one got up to 97 lbs and the Vet put him on a diet. He has been on diet food for over 3 years and 79 lbs is the smallest he has ever gotten.

"I hope my wife will defend me when some female saleslady tries the same".

A young female "student" came to my door selling magazines (My wife was not at home) When I let her know I wasn't interested, she said with a pretty smile, "With the purchase you get me for three days" As I was closing the door on her she said, "Just kidding"! As visions of her leveling assult charges against me or worse were running through my mind.

I don't need any signs.

My border collie taught the Labrador retriever that the proper response to the sound of the doorbell is to bark furiously and throw yourself at the door or the little windows on each side of it.

All *we* ever see of delivery people is a&&es and elbows.

Last summer, one guy walked around the side of our house and stuck his head over our fence. We were sitting on the patio in privacy, we thought.

The nerve of some folks. My husband and I shoot skeet fairly regularly. If this happened at our house, I'm curious as to which one of us would have hollered "PULL" first.

Glad I put up my "No Solicition" sign last weekend. I bet that was effective! /sarcasm

I find that my "Beware of rabid pit bull" sign is much more effective.

Good for that husband. Maybe next time this loser will not harass women.
