Why President Bush won't publicly endorse Tom is mystifying. He is the only one capable of restoring California's economic health. That in turn would help the national economy, making reelection much easier.

There is a good chance AS will win this, so endorsing his gop opponent will alienate arguably the most recognized figure in politics today.

McClintock is not likely to win if the election is held in October.

More importantly, McClintock is a conservative (no compassionate modifier) and conservatives can't advance Bush's agenda.

Aside from the fact that he can't work with the legislature and has no bully pulpit, of course.

That in turn would help the national economy, making reelection much easier.

Yeah, Tom McClintock's 100% vetoing of any and all legislation that isn't to his standards of perfection will REALLY get the state moving in 2004.
