When a candidate gets all his votes from the independents and democrats [and Republicans], and leaves his GOP party base in the dust, that's not a win for the GOP.
"There you go again."

you drinking fmj's kool aide or some other fluid of his?
reagan was no dark horse conservative, but a guy with pop-culture name recognition and crossover appeal

Label him all you want, McClintock was still the highest vote-getter of any Republican running statewide last year. I know you guys hate having that FACT pointed out.

McClintock's stubborn little self-centered ego trip will not be rewarded. Arnold will defeat him and Cruz both.
He need not drop out.

And that is an indication he can win the highest office in the state? Let me help you out...NOPE.

(If you lay off of Arnold, I'll lay off of Tom. Bustamante is the real danger.)
To: Reagan Man
I have read this whole thread without commenting. I am ashamed to see you stoop to the name calling that has been prevalent in these arguments.
What happened to Reagan's 11th Commandment? And don't try dodging by saying that Arnold isn't a "real" Republican. He has been a registered Republican since he could first vote in this country. He has campaigned for Republican candidates, and has called himself a Republican in Hollywood when it was certainly not a help to his career.
You are not from Caliornia, and neither am I. This election does affect the nation however, and I will once again say why.
If Bustamante wins, or if Davis survives the recall, it will first of all make Republicans look foolish and as big a sore losers as the Goreons of 2000. In addition, California's economic collapse will continue, sending shockwaves across the country.
Then, when there is no other alternative, after raising taxes and having sunk themselves in the bond market, the democrats will DEMAND that Bush bails them out. This will happen right in time for the November, 2004 election.
Then we will have the same purists on here demanding that California be told to go pound sand, its all their fault, and Bush should stick to his principles.
It will probably cost him not only California's votes but maybe those in a few other states, and could tip the election to the Rat.
I have come to the point that I don't care which person wins, but it is vital for a Republican to win. I think McClintock doesn't have as good a chance because he can't draw any crossover votes, but at least I can say that other than my questioning of his campaign tactics, I have never said anything ill about him.
I know I said this last night, but I am trying to get people to see this election as more than just a personal "my way or the highway" moment.
And please stop calling people names. It makes your position look very weak.

People from Tennessee had a RINO Governor for 8 years who lied to us about everything, including taxes. You could apparently learn from us. Or Illinois, or New Jersey, or Taxachusetts...

Tom McClintock is the
ONLY Conservative Republican in this race. Tom represents exactly what this state needs to overcome the tide of socialism spewing forth from Sacramento.
McClintock: - "Within moments of taking the oath of office I'll sign an executive order to rescind the governor's tripling of our car tax."
- "I'll then void the $42 billion of outrageously overpriced electricity contracts that Davis locked us into.
- "Then I'll call a special session of the state legislature to replace California's workers compensation law with Arizona's and bring our workers comp costs down by two-thirds."
To date Arnold has refused to sign a "NO TAXES" pledge, that speaks volumes about Arnold as a governor of this state. Yet, Tom McClintock has signed that pledge. There should be no question who would make the better governor.
Arnolds Reality: - Arnold has close ties to the Kennedy family. Can Kalifornia afford the risk of Ted Kennedy advising Arnold on matters that will impact this state's future?
- Arnold's advisor is Warren Buffet, who right out of the box called for raising taxes in Kalifornia.
- Arnold is supported by Pete Wilson, the purveyor of the largest tax hike in Kalifornia history.
- Arnold is nothing more than a BustaMEChA-lite candidate. Kalifornia cannot afford the risk of having Arnold Schwarzenkennedy as governor.
ARNOLD = BUSTAMEChA-LITE
Vote Tom McClintock.

I'm sorry, but the Republican base is not supporting Arnold. Arnold and McClintock have entirely different constituencies.

I don't care who you are. Orange County lions club or the commie reds country club. A vote for Arnold is a vote for a liberal RINO.
A vote for Tom McClintock is a vote for a conservative Republican.
To: Chancellor Palpatine; Canticle_of_Deborah
Sorry, dude. Without Conservatives, you got the MA GOP. Willie Weld's dream. Count how many Republicans occupy offices other than Governor up there.

KA's analysis pointed out a major major problem: that one group would never ever vote for the same candidate as another group.
Actually, this is why Republicans don't win state wide offices in California. This is a problem, but it doesn't have to be that way. The whole point should be that all conservative, moderate, liberal Republicans should unite and have all of them support the candidate who can beat the Democrat candidate.
If the various groups would unite, those numbers add up.
If you have 35% Arnold, 12% McC and 45% Bustamante on Oct. 7, Bustamante wins and it's because of the split Republican vote. Clearly, if the McClintock voters would unite behind Arnold, then Arnold would get 47% to Bustamante's 45% and we all win, and Bustamante loses.
It is simple math.
To: George W. Bush
I'd prefer to let Cali simmer under Dim management if we can't elect a conservative. And thanks to your type we got 8 years of Clinton and still had to fight like @#$% to avoid Gore. "Simmering" never works - once the RATs are in control, they take things way farther to the left than we ever have a chance of reversing.
