Hey now! I was just curious to see if this was happening to anyone else. I DO freepmail back the people and ask to be off of the list. I put up the vanity because I am being put on regular ping list (ie, ping list that are often used, like mhking's lists), not one-time lists.

Maybe change your signature to "do not ping me, do not reply to me, do not mail me without my permission"? That way you will not be bothered.
