I having been on a low carb diet of one type or another, for about 2 years. Please add me to your ping list.

I too was on a low carb / high protein diet for a while. I'm not overweight, in fact I work out regularly and was taking protein supplements (over 160 grams/day). My worry with the low-carb diet has been that your brain needs to synthesize carbs to create glucose. If it doesn't get enough of them, it will create it from MUSCLE tissue! This is called GLUCONEOGENESIS.

This is my chief concern about low carbs. I spend too much time lifting heavy chunks of iron to only lose it to my brain which is hungry for glucose.

Hi Bon mots. I did a search on "gluconeogenesis" here is what I found:
Glucose is the most important fuel for the brain and red blood cells and is normally obtained from the diet. When fasting, however, the body’s glucose needs must be met by gluconeogenesis, the biosynthesis of glucose from non-carbohydrate precursors. Gluconeogenesis occurs in the liver and, to a smaller extent, in the kidneys.

Like yourself,I also work out:treadmill, cybex machines and some free weights. On the low carb diet I have always "felt" less tired doing my routine than on a low fat diet. But this "gluconeogenesis",is an interesting question, that I really do not know the answer to. Does any health care professionals, know anything about this condition. Are there concerns for people who work out with weights, for acquiring this condion when on a low carb diet?
