A thanks to News report BRIAN WILLIAMS Times Staff Writer for writing this article.

An a special thanks to Pfc. Jacob Cristea for providing the freedom our country has come to enjoy.

I also praise Pfc. Cristea but allow me to pick a small nit. Mr. Cristea did not provide our freedom, he helped protect it. God provided our freedom and the Constitution protects it. Private Cristea and his friends, and many like him who came before him, protect our Constitution and our freedom from outside dangers. However, the biggest danger is domestic. Protecting that is our responsibility. Although we don't risk our lives like Cristea and his friends, Freepers and FR go along way in doing that.

let me pick a small nit...... God provided our freedom

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Let me pick a small nit. God did not provide our freedom. Samual Colt, millions of veterans, pioneers, founding fathers provided the basis for what little freedoms are left. Do you really think you are free??? With ten of thousand of laws, ordinances, regulations, and procedures who is free???

God did not give us our freedom.

"When we have kids someday," Cristea said, "and they're learning about (Operation) Iraqi Freedom, I'll say 'Don't read that -- sit down and let me tell you what really happened' and I'll bring out all the notes."

Awesome, heartbreaking, proud of our troops, ping! Thank you for this post, E.D. Thank you all for helping the troops get the "news" out.

This is one you might want to share with the press.

Thanks for posting this story.

It should be used as a ball bat whenever phoney conservatives on Free Republic try to trash what this brave Marine and other Americans have done in Iraq and are doing!

Actually he did. He gave us the freedom to make our own decisions. We voted into office the people who wrote the tens of thousands of rules. Personally, I'd prefer to stick to his original ten. Too bad the rest of the world is too stupid to agree with me and God.

Then the Dems hate our military warriors, Rummy and GW even more than the Islamofascist/kazi/nazis who would kill all us if given a chance.

God did not give us our freedom.

Cool your jets. You and I probably agree with any differences being minor.

I was basically espousing the point central to the founding of this country as stated in the Declaration of Independence and the Preamble to the Constitution. That point being that our rights and freedom are "unalienable" and "endowed by Nature and Nature's God", not given by man. I believe that - that man is by nature free and that any effort to change that must eventually be met with failure, no matter how long that may take.

Because there are many who will gladly subjugate others to their will those rights must be defended. Force must be fought with superior force or superior guile. I agree with you in the need to defend our freedoms and as far as the laws go, that was implied in my comment that the biggest danger to us is domestically. I know we have many unconstitutional laws and regulations, that trial lawyers take away even more of our freedoms with the threat of economic damage, that taxes are confiscatory, etc. However, I don't back off my agreement with the founders, our rights are God-given and since they are not bestowed by man they cannot be taken away by man.

"We did so much for those people."

Did we give them "Socialism"? If we didn't give them Socialism then the Democrats here wont believe we did anything for them.

Proudly posting since the Jurassic
