WASHINGTON (NNS) -- The following is a Labor Day message from the Honorable Hansford T. Johnson, Acting Secretary of the Navy:
As we celebrate the contributions workers have made to the prosperity of our great nation this Labor Day, we also celebrate our contribution to their security. From Africa through the Middle East to the Pacific Rim, we stand on the front lines of our nation’s defense. Together with the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard and civilian workforce, we are working hard to preserve our way of life. America is extremely proud of your labors and dedication to the citizens we serve.
I am also extremely proud of your labors and dedication to each other. As Acting Secretary, I am the Department of the Navy’s Chief of Safety. But in reality, we are all chiefs of safety. Each and every one of us must be aware of safety in all that we do and look after one another both on and off-duty. The continued reduction in incidents shows that we are working hard to do just that.
My warmest wishes for your happiness and well being on this holiday. God Bless each of you, your families and the United States of America.
