I am not seeing where we differ so much. Could you clarify and then I will elaborate?

Thanks, I was more than willing to hear some criticism from someone else on my side of the argument, as well.

How might I differ? Many forms of political correctness leave me cold or outright defensive. I'm sure that I don't speak for all secularists by any means, because anyone who claims to be offended by someone else's religiosity or traditional (for example Anglo) culture is just as much of a problem as any racist, at least to me.

Several times I've ended up arguing with secularists (usually Libertarians) about human sexuality. I am jealous about guarding the integrity of the traditional family unit, usually by eliminating "sticks" that are put in their way by bureaucracies and government (for example, welfare regulations that encouraged people to divorce), and making sure that we leave historic "carrots" in place. I'm also convinced that we must not allow same sex unions in our national law, and I'm sensitive to moral conservatives who do not want to pay taxes that are used for such state and county domestic partner benefits. My purpose is not to discriminate against people with unnatural sexual behaviors between consenting adults, but rather to refuse to discourage traditional parents. Since resources of all kinds are finite, I do not want to divert the kinds of support that have been given to the traditional family unit since the beginning of human civilization. I also believe that children *do* learn sexual behaviors from adults, and in the interest of encouraging our citizens to reproduce, I find same sex parenting to be a risk to our future as a poplous nation. The state shouldn't be discouraging our reproduction by placing children in adoptive homes that do not offer any semblance of natural role models for parenting.

I think these and other similar issues are one of the main reasons why people want to add religion to our government's charter. They see a simple solution to the backwards progress we've been making on these fronts: return to our religiously guided lawmaking and enforcement, and all will be well again! However, I believe we are responsible to move forward across the barriers rapid secularization has placed in the path of encouraging the traditional family structure. And I think it can and must be done if we want to survive as an American civilization.
