PHOENIX - Barry Bonds was hospitalized Sunday night because of exhaustion following his father's death.

Bonds was scratched from San Francisco's lineup just minutes before Sunday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, one day after he left a game because of an accelerated heart rate.

That's EXACTLY what happened to me. I had been at a new job (my dream job) for two months when my Father was diagnosed with lung cancer. Being the sole caretaker, I took too much time off and felt I was being a detriment to the Company, so I resigned. They were so great about it. I ended up resigning and they said I could come back whenever I needed to. I never did. It just didn't seem like it was in the cards for me.

The physical effects of bereavement

And what exactly is the correlation between Bonds exhibiting the physical symptoms often associated with grieving, and Kobe Bryant being accused of rape?

He is a "trained athelete". Trained to keep his body tuned. If he has to be hospitalized, then something is VERY SERIES!

That obsevation seems to have stirred up a few folks. It may right. Now if someone had said, the HIV was getting to him, that would be definitely 'sick' and cross the line.

If baseball would straighten out it's act on drugs and drug testing, there would be less need to make these 'observations'.

Most people? What, Are you now a know-it-all pollster, too? SHADDUP already. Sheese. He was CLOSE to his dad. Maybe that is something you can't understand.

Perhaps you don't understand JR's policy on NO personal attacks.

Where did we get so many PC freepers? Isn't the truth appreciated anymore?

PC? They are downright nasty with their personal attacks. If I didn't think better, I would think they are democrats.

Baseball Scout Supreme GEORGE GENAVESE discovered both Father & Son BOND

I don't think it took the greatest scout in the world to "discover" Berry Bonds. He was practically in the dugout the whole time as he grew up.

Just because you are a trained athelete, does not mean you cannot experience the symptoms of bereavement, as outlined in the link to medical information that I posted. Once more, for those from Rio Linda...in other words, for stupid people.

"Bereavement drains the body's resources The explanation was quite simple. Bereavement is an immensely stressful event that can take a huge toll on the body, causing all sorts of physical problems (see Box 1 for symptoms). My patient hadn't had a full night's sleep since his wife died. Neither had he eaten very much - his appetite had disappeared and he simply couldn't be bothered to eat. It was no wonder that he didn't feel strong enough to march around a crowded shopping centre.

Even when lack of sleep or food aren't factors, lethargy and tiredness are common physical symptoms of bereavement. The loss of a loved one sets off a powerful stress response in the body, with release of high levels of natural steroids and a heightened state of awareness in the nervous system, especially the autonomic nervous system (the 'flight or fight' system) which controls the body's level of readiness for action. The heart responds to this increased nervous drive with an increase in pulse and blood pressure. Even if the person seems slow and down, inside they are in turmoil.

This stress response also affects the immune system, and bereavement has been shown, for example, to cause a fall in activity of the T-lymphocytes - cells that are very important for fighting infection. So colds and other minor infections are common. Pre-existing painful problems such as arthritis may get worse and other chronic health conditions often flare up too. It's common for conditions that need careful control such as diabetes and high blood pressure to go completely awry. This helps to explain why people who experience personal loss are at higher risk of dying during the first year. Men are at greater risk than women, perhaps because they have fewer support systems among family and friends."

The correlation is that anyone that dares NOT follow the PC line supporting the superstar is personally attacked by the minions of the pro super stars.

You seem to have a habit of creating malicious lies to justify posting malodorous junk.

Please post your proof or apologize.

Most people don't wind up flying across the country half a dozen times in a few months during their father's convalesence either.

What has this to do with Bonds?

"Shortness of breath"

The most common symptoms in UIP, as in all forms of IPF, include excessive shortness of breath when trying to exercise and a dry, hacking cough. Some people may also notice flu-like feelings such as fatigue, mild fever, weight loss and muscle and joint aches. However, fever is generally uncommon in UIP, occurring in only 15% of patients. Symptoms usually develop gradually over months or years, and this chronic nature is what distinguishes IPF in general from diseases with similar symptoms such as the common cold or flu.

What is wrong with you...we are not supporting a superstar, we're supporting a fellow human being who is obviously very effected by the death of his Father. Some people (you) will turn anything into a battle.

I believe you are thinking of Mike Webster...he was the center for the Pittsburgh Steelers during the glory years of the 1970s. I remember the first time I ever heard of steriods, and he was used as an example (he had the telltale profound adult acne that goes with steriod use).

Webster fell on very hard times (his wife left and took the kids), he did not invest well and was broke (at one point, if I remember correctly for Pgh. sports page accounts) and living in his car. Friends, players from his Steeler years stepped in and that is how he got into the public speaking (on the dangers of steriods). He did die from cancer. Very sad.
