Maybe somebody with a great deal of bomb making sophistication is seeking to:

1) Create terror in a civil populace by using and killing innocents for criminal purposes thus empahasizing the helplessness of the police to protect the citizenry and the failure of the police to get people out of dangerous conditions.

2) Generate a little operating capital for their criminal/terror operations.

3) Create a cut-out between them and the targets/authorities by utilizing civilians in a kidnapping style tactic.

4) Advance a larger, global agenda that may be linked to anti-American forces.

No time to go nutters over this tragedy, but I will be interested in seeing what comes of this and who was renting the mysterious house the delivery man went to before he went on his reluctant mission.

Thanks. Just showed the bank and delivery though. Those two seem less than 2 miles apart which lends credence to the innocent victim story. One would think when the bomb squad was handcuffing him, they'd also take the bomb away to a safe distance. Whether the guy was innocent or not, you just don't leave a bomb hanging around his neck. Weird story no matter how it turns out.

If it was put on him by someone else, the cops bombed out on this one. If the timer had been active all the time, would he have made it to the thieves before it detonated?

If that is the case, the elapsed time between the robbery and the detonation gives a radius of travel for investigation. Could he have returned to the original delivery address? I expect there would have to be enough time built into the scenario to at least allow for transfer of the money, even if the bombers had no intent of defusing the device.

If the device was a self-set escape ploy, he couldn't apparently defuse it with his hands cuffed behind his back..

While no one has been arrested or identified as a suspect, Rudge said the investigation was "going extremely well."

Time Line Of Thursday`s Peach Street Bomb Blast

The scene has been cleared but the investigation into the deadly bank robber bombing on peach street is still underway. Federal agents from the FBI are in charge of the investigation.

At 2:22 pm Thursday, the man later identified as Brian or Bryan Wells, 46, of Millcreek Township, entered the PNC Bank in Summit Town Center. Wells handed a note to the teller demanding money and he said he had a bomb strapped to his chest. He then lifted his shirt and showed the teller the bomb.

Wells was given an unspecified amount of money, and fled the scene at 2:30 pm.

Customers from inside the bank followed the man outside, wrote down his license plate number and called 911 as he drove away.

State police pulled the man over around the corner at Eyeglass World, at 7200 Peach Street.

When confronted by police, Wells was immediately handcuffed. That`s when Wells told troopers he had an explosive device. Troopers immediately dropped the suspect to his knees on the ground and backed away.

The area was secured, Peach Street was shut down and the Erie bomb squad was called. But before they arrived the bomb that was strapped to the man`s body exploded.

After the bomb detonated members of the bomb squad inspected the body and searched the suspects car for any other explosive devices. Troopers, FBI and federal ATF agents later searched two areas off I-79, one near the Kearsarge exit and one near McKean.

Around 11:35 Thursday night police also surrounded a home in the 2300 block of Loveland Road in Millcreek. They blew the door around 1:15 in the morning, and began searching the home.

Then around 4:20 this morning police and federal officials cleared the scene on Peach Street and the roadway was reopened to motorists.

Police have not yet released any details at to whether any evidence was obtained during their searches, and it is still unknown whether the suspect detonated the bomb, or if it was on a timer.

How horrid if true. I feel bad joking earlier about his claim that he was forced to rob the bank. Wasn't there a movie plot somewhere which used this scheme of forcing others to rob banks with bombs strapped to their bodies?
