I was 18 at the time and was living in the New Haven area. The main green in New Haven was overtaken by the coms, panthers, and the riots were quelled with riot police and tear gas. Yale U was a pit of vipers, and as far as I know, remains the same.

I post the following links, not to dispute the above article but to show the bias in SNOPES (which some people still believe is a non-partisan site). Sometimes it is the way a synopsis is phrased that makes all the difference between "True" and "False". Look at their tap dance against calling Hillary a LIAR in the Sir Edmund Hillary link.

Claim: Hillary Clinton played a significant role in defending Black Panthers accused of torturing and murdering Alex Rackley. [Status: False.]

Claim: Hillary Clinton was named after world-famous mountain climber Sir Edmund Hillary. [Status: Undetermined.]

Another point is that Hillary Clinton didn't quite claim the story of how she came by her name was literally true; she said her mother told her it was true — a minor but important distinction, especially given how often parents make up harmless little fibs to amuse their children...

Given all the available facts, it's difficult to view the claim that Hillary Clinton was named after Edmund Hillary as anything but a little white lie concocted for a special occasion. Only her mother, Dorothy Rodham, knows for sure, but so far she hasn't spoken up.

People forget the US Attorney is an appointed office, not an elected one.
He has nothing to lose by doing his job.
