John "Howard Dean without the MD" Garamendi would have been a much more formidable candidate. What Garamendi lacks is "perceived Mexican-ness" and the snazzy "Lt. Gov." title.

I have to be fair about this. Repubs didn't put up a real winner in the last election either. I think it is sad neither party can put up a half ass candidtate for the largest state in the union. Bustamante is a major racist. I was not sure until i watched the TS interview. I'm shocked.

To the democrats Davis might be first string --- but to the Mexican government and the Aztlan group Bustamante is first string. With just a few more illegals sent from Mexico, they won't need the other democrats much longer.
