Insistence on principles, morals, ethics, sound religion & a healthy culture ( family values, decency, conservatism ) are not apocalyptic convulsions. They are the very stuff of what this nation was constructed. It could be de-constructed by a certain sort.

Flim-flam showmen with hollow 'positions' which reveal a dark view of the world ( really a worship of death itself ) all splashed around radio & TV ( like candy treats-eagerly consumed by the cheap hosts, never questioned or little challenged ) do not substitute for what is so easily ignored-good character.

Some true believers have a correct vision-there is such a thing. Civilization has turned some dark corners before-what we take for granted could vanish quickly. It stands on the things I touched on. Like brick on one another. We enjoy all we have, compliments of the many who died face down in the mud-and we also have that small debt to the few gun-toting religous fanatics who rejected what they saw as tyranny.

It is the larger tragedy that so very few care about these things-such is the way of a mob. Says something about our lack of moral grounding & basic educatiuon. There is a novel topic for the sucessful(!) & productive(!) government schools to teach-the derivation of good character.

I think I shall log off & go watch Mel Gibson's Patriot. It is filled with fundementalist, religous zealots, true believers.

With the exeption of the above, I strongly agree with your post. I raised my family that way, and have children I can be proud of.

You seem closed to the idea of personal redemption. Perhaps there are no episodes or acts in your youth that you now regret. If so, you may count yourself fortunate. But there are many who look back and regret things they have done; and have resolved to change, and have changed, their lives.

Arnold married a very religious catholic woman, almost 20 years ago, and remains married, now with four children. By every account, he has become a devoted family man and is raising his children in the faith. He is involved with the church and has been very generous with his time and money to any number of worthy projects.

I'm not saying "behold a saint"; but neither is he a priest of the anti-Christ as some have painted him. If a man's actions are any guide to his character, this is a man who has learned over time that faith and family and freedom are the important things in life. You may scoff, but I believe he will be a moral presence in Sacramento.
