I think what ElkGroveDan meant is that McClintock can run a reasonable campaign on a much smaller budget than many other candidates need and that he knows how to find bargains to save money. Similarly, he demonstrates he had the ability to run government on a much smaller budget than the other candidates.

I commend him for that, if it be so. He will probably be rewarded for same, with a 3rd place finish.
If all he set out to do was run "a reasonable" campaign, and to demonstrate he could do so with a small warchest, I guess he accomplishes the mission.
Great, if that is the way you see it. I guess then why I'm out of step, is that I see WINNING as the goal. Silly me.
