Cop Continues To Do His Job As Other Cops Are Shocked And Speechless By Tragedy And Stop Doing Their Jobs To Gauk At The TV All Day.

Before anyone gets upset let me say that this Alternate Headline's sarcasm isn't directed at those law enforcement officers who actually went out and did something about it.

I say put this guy in SWAT, homicide, or some other stressfull job where you can see alot of horrible stuff.

Some people just don't get emotionally worked up like other people. Its just a fact of life. Maybe he could intellectually understand that a lot of people just lost their lives, but it doesn't necessarily make him weep uncontrollably.

Did all the millions of people staring dumbfounded at the TV help any of those attacks on iota? Should we feel like we were doing our civic duty by watching the TV when this guy didn't? Is this article saying he should have stopped doing his job?

There's not much information here. Where was this officer, and what time did this conversation take place? If it was shortly after the first plane hit, and he was presumably not at the scene, he may not have learned yet of the seriousness. The initial news reports said "a small plane has hit the World Trade Center". I heard it on the radio when I was getting ready for work in the morning, planning to head to an investment conference at a West side hotel. I just kept going as if I 'd heard about a nasty car accident in Queens, because it didn't sound much more serious than that.

Which was seriously remodeled by Large Falling Objects a few minutes after that conversation.

I'm with you. That wasn't shock, it was inertia and callousness. The guy was getting off his shift ("I'm walking"), and he was determined to wrap up and go home and leave the pillar of smoke for other people to handle.

On second thought, those conversations had to have occurred in the 15 minutes or so after WTC 1 was struck, and before the second airliner rained down debris on his building (one of the engines came to rest a couple of blocks to the north, on a sidewalk). For this guy to have made those comments to someone after the top of his building was peppered with plane, building, and body parts, he'd have had to have had the composure of one of Schwartzenegger's cyborgs.
