The map on the link you provided is called "New Aztlan". I think that differs from the "Aztlan" that is referred to the "stolen" land, that which was transfered by treaty....but again, I am not sure and so am looking for facts.
Liberals today are fast and loose with the term "Empirialist". The aquisition of southern Texas, New Mexico and California was probably the last time the U.S. actually engaged in empire building. Santa Anna had been dispatched and the remaining Mexican officials were happy to hear that we weren't interested keeping the whole country. They actually offered the dictatorship to Winfield Scott, the Commanding General of the U.S. forces, which took Mexico City (there was a relatively minor battle at Mexico City, after three larger battles on the way from Veracruz, where the navy had dropped them off.)
