Dear Ernest and Mrs. Ernest, my heart goes out to you. As I've said on other threads similar to this one, I'm not good with ritualistic prayers. I'd rather just ask the good Lord to relieve Mrs. Ernest's suffering, and comfort those who love her. I have often wondered why God chose to make the world in such a way that all his creatures die, and most often in a very difficult, painful way. Very few of us just slip quietly away in our sleep.
He could have organized things any way he wished, but He chose a seemingly endless cycle of destruction, pain, death and renewal. Even his stars die eventually. So there must be some purpose to it all.

I don't think that God chooses the bad things..I think He gives us the choice to look to Him for help.
Perhaps he chose to make the world a place where good and bad things happen to good and bad people so that we can appreciate the good ones!
Pretty kindergarten answer to really tough questions, I know, but having been in a similar situation watching my mother pass away from cancer as a teenager...I think I would go crazy if I tried to be too complex in my thinking about this one!
Prayers offered up for Mr. and Mrs Ernest!
(and for you too Wolf:-)
