What I meant to say is that hate directed towards Christians isn't confined to evengelicals. I've noticed the same intolerance on any thread mentioning the Pope or the Catholic Church, and it typically surfaces while the thread is still in single digits.

Your message could've been interpreted as being directed at two different entities - anti christian bigots in general or at anti-catholic protestants. Given the tenor of the thread I assumed the first.

Plus I didn't think another thread full of christians squabbling among themselves would've been very useful.

Just curious. Which "rule of law" are you referring to? This catch phrase is bandied about without much consideration. Do you suppose Mr. Pryor and the Alabama justices are somehow unaware of the "rule of law" you so cryptically refer to?

I suspect you will go off on the 1st Amendment and the currently convenient interpretation permitting the injection of religion into government. This profound desire to inject religion into government, however, has an inevitable and reciprocal conseqence - government meddling in religion. Frankly, I do not understand the reason for tempting this eventuality. I prefer a government as small and non-intrusive as possible, and the best way to assure that government does not become the arbiter of my religious expression is to distance my religious expression from the government. "Seperation of Church and state" may not be directly expressed in the Constitution, but it is a fortuitous interpretation that I find welcome and preferable to the alternative.

Having gone and read his bio, I again note that he's not risked his personal health and safety, nor his material comfort in speaking out for others.

In other words, he has made no sacrifice in his agenda to impose strict morality by law, a social in which he would find himself a power broker.

The analogy that is being drawn is with respect to Dr. King suffering jail time for his protests, vs. Dr. Dobson not being imprisoned. Granted, King had a great deal of physical courage. I do not know if Dobson has the same degree of physical courage.

Let us not forget that courage and being imprisoned on the part of an individual is no guaranty of that individual's righteousness or the correctness of his cause. Hitler was awarded the Iron Cross, Second Class, for his valor during World War I and was imprisoned for attempting to overthrow the Bavarian government during the Beer Hall Putsch. Stalin was repeatedly sent into the wilds of Siberia into exile for his Bolshevik activities. He was by all accounts a rugged and tough man who at one time survived an attack by wolves. Mao and Castro lived the rigorous life of back country guerillas before coming to power. Brave men all, brutal dictators and mass murderers all.

Whether Dr. Dobson is a man of courage or not is irrelevant to his public protest of the removal of the Ten Commandments from the Alabama Supreme Court building. Courage is not a prerequisite to the right to express an opinion. Additionally, courage has been an attribute of numerous evil men throughout history.

Yes, there were many before Rosa but her defiance called attention to those before her. There have been many before Roy Moore who have been told that they can't wear their Christian apparel and symbols and who have been told that they can't have their bibles in school. Roy Moore is calling attention to them. Like Rosa's civil disobedience, Roy Moore's has indeed sparked an awareness to the injustices perpetrated upon an individual group of people.

The Constitution does not tell the government which side to take on establishment of religion. It does tell the Federal government that it can have NO opinion at all. This has the effect of preventing a Federal State Religion but it also prevents the Federal government from un-establishing religion too. Several of the states had established religions at the time of the signing of the Constitution and some even well into the 1800's. The Federal Government was forbidden by the Constitution to even open it's mouth on the topic. These states were also governed in many cases by those who helped write the Constitution. Surely they would know what it said.
