Could this be a potential Greer zoning scandal

Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News, Oct 7, 1998

As Florida Lawmakers Partied, Flimsy Mobile Homes Boomed. John Kennedy. Full Text: COPYRIGHT 1998 Knight-Ridder/Tribune Business News

Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News

Oct. 6--TALLAHASSEE, Fla.--On a dirt road at the edge of town, Florida lawmakers used to meet for steaks, drinks and less savory activities, courtesy of one of the state's most powerful lobbies -- the mobile-home industry.

[snip]During the peak party years at the trailers -- 1961 to 1978 -- more than 350,000 new mobile homes rolled onto Florida lots, and the way was paved for another 350,000 in the 1980s. These were giant waves in a rising tide that would change the face of the state and leave a legacy still visible today. Mobile homes became a crucial part of Florida's housing inventory, but most were built and installed with far less government safety scrutiny than other homes.

[snip]What about the insurance industry? Its fear of further financial losses helped prod Chiles and the Legislature to craft tougher building-code legislation for conventional homes. But the insurance industry shows no similar interest in mobile-home safety.

"Unfortunately, economics are a large part of it," said Ray Blacklidge, a senior vice president with the Jerger Co. Inc., one of the state's largest mobile-home insurers.

Insurers do face claims when a storm rips through a mobile-home park. But losses are relatively small. It may take as many as 10 ruined mobile homes to amount to the same loss for insurers that the destruction of a single, $250,000 site-built home represents.

And, Blacklidge said, "it takes a whole lot of mobile homes to be destroyed to come up with a $1 million loss."

Hospice and city/county officials are interchangeable like Lego blocks. There are appearances of impropriety therein. Who's protecting whom? Looks like cronyism to me.

Just got off the phone with Lazarra's JA. They are NOT logging calls. She told me I was "wasting your time" -- I told her that I apologized for taking her time and that I would take up my cause in other directions. She was about halfway polite. Apparrantly they're getting a lot of calls, she got real quiet when I stated my purpose for calling.

The Supreme Court of Florida's recent Denial actually called Dr. Hammesfahr a "quack" by insinuation. They insulted all of Terri's doctors and derided their credentials. A google search under Terri Schiavo Fla Supreme Court Decision (I think) produces the entire decision. Their tone throughout was get rid of her because we're sick of this case. It's quite Orwellian.

It seems like they are all protecting each other. Here is another link between to of the board members Hospice foundation adds six new board members

* * *

The Hospice Foundation of the Florida Suncoast has elected six new members to its board of trustees. They are William "Bill" Carnes, general manager of Countryside Mall and an active member of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church; Pinellas County Administrator Fred Marquis; attorney and elder-law activist Bruce McManus; Tech Data Corp. senior vice president Joseph Trepani; Belleair activist Janice Warhurst; and community activist Kathy Wilder.
Both Bill Carnes and Fred Marquis go to the same church ! Do you remember name of the church that Felos had a seminar or talked at?

The Catholic Church, as stated in the Catechism #2277, is against euthanasia:

"Whatever its motives and means, direct euthanasia consists in putting an end to the lives of handicapped, sick, or dying persons. It is morally unacceptable." Catholic Catechism.

In violation of his marriage vows, Mr. Schiavo is living with another woman with whom he has fathered a child. Should one still refer to such a person as a member of Terri's "family" entitled to make the best life and death decisions on her behalf?

What do you make of Judge Greer, and numerous city and county officials who serve or in the past, served on Hospice's Board? They're interchangeable and I'd hardly describe all their activities as a public service. They are pushing an agenda whether they realize it or not. This is not just about Terri.

It's an attempt to divine someone's last wishes if they can't communicate what their wishes are. It's written in the Florida Statutes, very poorly written. To sum up, "anything goes."

What is so unbelievable in our society today, is that if you are a judge in a U.S. court who extracurricularly participates in "Right-to-Die"-type organizations, you are allowed to climb the ladder.

But, if you are a judge who takes part in anything remotely affiliated with "Right-to-LIFE"-type groups or movements, you're first labeled an extremist, then you'll be filibustered by the Democrats, and told to "take a seat over there" 'till the cows come home.

The people you identified as Hospice directors, etc. are clearly noted to be "activists". This can only mean one thing - pro-euthanasia activists. Worth noting their names. If this gets hairy, we can post their phone numbers or find their email addresses and freep them.

I can't recall what church Felos spoke at. He's definitely not in cahootz with Lutherans. Lutherans believe God is caring and loving.

Hey do you know where Michael got his nursing degree? I haven't been able to find it. Check out this site http://www.aacc.nche.edu/Content/NavigationMenu/ResourceCenter/Projects_Partnerships/Past/CommunityBasedNursing/Projects/StPetersburg.htm
Another board member of the hospice is a proffessor of nursing at a community college! And guess who one of the community partners is for this program.... Yep The Hospice!

I found out it is the Palm Harbor Unity Church. I am glad I don't mind worms, because this can is getting bigger and fatter worms every time I look. I was Methodist until my preacher was talking about letting gay's in and other things I don't approve of. I am now looking for new church.

Thanx, RD! Perhaps I'm not keeping up well ... how long has this been posted at the link? I could have been sending the link addy instead of the entire file to the media contacts I've alerted with it! File was too large for el Rushbo's e-carrier; now I can forward the link to Rush.

Must be nice to get multiple paychecks and perks. Moonlighting at colleges or in public office.

The more Hospice patients means bigger and better paydays for the top tier of Hospice and it's a not for profit org. (Look at what the United Way top tier did.)

When employees catch on at Hospice or try to make suggestions to improve the Hospice program, they lose their jobs.

Here's a sick thought. Eventually, they're going to run out of seniors because the baby boomers are a healthy lot. To keep the profit margin up, they can continue to operate because of really bad Florida Statutes.

Anyone who is a guardian of a person can divine their wishes when they get tired of the chronically ill person and have them killed with the seal of approval of the Florida Statutes!

What is being sanctioned in the State of Florida to terminate Terri Schiavo's life makes Hanging Chad look like an innocent bystander.

The Fla. legislature needs to revisit the Florida Statutes that address "when and who?" The Fla. Supreme Court (no surprise) interpreted the F.S. meaning on this subject is "sick person loses".

Yes. They will try to refine the definition of a patient who is in need of Hospice care.

Not Dead Yet has pointed out in a brief that Greer has wrongly accepted the idea that the patient needs to reproduce her actions in order to prove she is not in a PVS. Florida Law and Federal law did not have that requirement.

This not only transgresses Florida's legal definition but also brings a new and ominous level of subjectivity into the process of determining "persistent vegetative state." The trial court's new standard would lead to inconsistent and overly broad determinations of what is or is not a "permanent vegetative state" and potentially subject thousands of people with severe cognitive disabilities to third-party enforcement of their "right" to die.

I know. We are calling to make ourselves known. We have no control over what happens in the courtroom but suffice it to say when she's alone with Judge Lazzara, she will have to tell him in confidence that she received a lot of phone calls today.

One of our goals as you know, is to rattle lots of cages in a polite way so that we aren't labeled as wackos. We aren't wasting "our time." We are making folks answer the phone and listen to us.

This is just part of our ongoing effort and we've been told similar stuff by other bureaucrats. Did it stop us? Nope.

This isn't a rant directed at you kimmie, just a rallying cry for all freepers to email and call. Main numbers are at the top of this thread. Subsequent numbers are also available here. FV
