Refer their questions to answers already existing on this mother of all Terri threads. Invite them to take part here.

And I thought only democrat organizations were scattered.

I've never seen or read of a battle won with scattered deployment. A very ineffective and costly way to wage an exercise; be it social/political, or a theatre of war.

But you just go right ahead. God knows, the last thing I'd want you to do is take my word for it.

"Is the hearing today the one that Federal Judge Lazzara was on?"

That hearing is tomorrow, I believe.

Check this out....

From Litigation as a Spiritual Practice

p. 70

"Countless incompetent patients have been prematurely intubated for the sake of corporate convenience and profit. But why would the patient's doctor order such a thing you ask? The primary treating physician for many nursing home residents also happens to be the facility's staff doctor, who very often also happens to hold a financial interest in the institution. How's that for conflict of interest!"

Emphasis mine.

How's that for the pot calling the kettle black!

I've been reading his book and all I can say is ... wow. This guy thinks he is God! He talks of the Universal Mind. Sounds very new age/scientology type to me.

And no, I did not pay money for the book. (ewwwww) A "friend" e-mailed me copies of several pages. He/She didn't buy it either...neither of us wanted to put even a dime in Felos' pocket. However, he/she agrees with me that this fella needs to be watched and called to task for his actions.

You apparently don't consider it a waste of the thread to stealthily chastise me. Let this response work as a bump to the top, but I'd appreciate it if you would cease posting anything to me and take me off of any lists you may be using. Thanks

That's great, I think, Deo! Great for Terri's story, probably not so great for California. I don't know... I'm thinking that if our paper carries this story, there are several large papers not so much in our market that may pick it up. Then perhaps more will se their story and so on.... I'm going to do the CourtTV thing again...also going to make myself a general pest to Rush (yes, this is his kind of thing -- it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL -- and he should be chided for not covering it) and Reeves' place.

Unjustified isolation or segregation of persons with disabilities through institutionalization is a form of discrimination prohibited by the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). The Department of Justice enforces the ADA, the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act, and other federal civil rights laws.[snip]

"Protecting the rights of persons with disabilities is a critical part of the Department's civil rights law enforcement effort," said Attorney General John Ashcroft. "As a result of the Department's enforcement of the ADA and the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act, thousands of institutionalized persons who were living in dire conditions now receive adequate care and services in community-based settings."

The Department's Special Litigation Section currently has cases or investigations in 12 states, and Puerto Rico involving community placement. Some of these include:[snip]

In enforcing federal civil rights laws, the Department conducts regular investigations of health care facilities and reviews the appropriateness of placement of individuals in institutions In our settlements, the Department works to ensure that persons who are moved from institutional settings to community settings receive the services and care they need when they are placed in the community.

The Department of Justice will work closely with the Department of Health and Human Services, which has the lead role in coordinating implementation of the Olmstead executive order.

"The Department of Justice will continue to safeguard the civil rights and liberties guaranteed to all Americans," concluded Ashcroft.

Wow! That was in Felos' book?!! Maybe it can be used against him! Perhaps he can inform the courts of who specifically he is referring to.

Conflict of interest!

Felos is a nutcase!!(IMHO)

I found this interesting also:

From Litigation as a Spiritual Practice

p. 69

"Not only did feeding tubes perpetuate a clientele, they greatly reduced the cost of labor. Assisting an inpaired nursing home resident to naturally intake food is very time intensive. Not only may a resident need help to get the spoon to his or her mouth, but the food must be cut or mashed and the resident may often require repeated encouragement to eat. How better to free up an aide's time, and the employer's money, than by commencing tube feeding? All the aide need do is change a bag once or twice a day, expending a few minutes rather than an hour or more in direct resident care."

So, when the patient has "running out of money" as Felos likes to put it, what better way to save even more time and money than to kill them? Especially if it can be done legally! I'm going to slip in to teenager-ese and say, "This guy makes me wanna hurl!"

Let's all calm down and stay ON TASK.

Anything to get this on the FRONT PAGE is OK, but this link needs to be placed over there OFTEN, and people directed over here. This is where the ACTION is!

Massachusetts Plans New Push to Home Care for Disabled

US Court Rulings Drive Move from Institutions

By Alice Dembner, Boston Globe, 8/21/2002

The state is closing Medfield State Hospital and moving many of its 96 residents, along with nearly 300 other people with mental and physical disabilities from nursing homes and institutions across the state, into group or private homes. The action comes largely in response to federal court rulings requiring that the disabled be treated in the least restrictive setting possible.

That's a nice find! I hope they plan to enforce their own rules! As for the Dept of HHS coordinating implementation, I would be surprised to see the bureaucracy do anything of value. As I see it, the most value they add is keeping people employed.

I agree that most needs to stay here, but front page is important too. People should be directed here, namely because all of you Freepers are the absolute BEST and if someone has a specific question, it's almost unheard of for one of us to not be able to answer it as well as back it up with a link or post number. JMHO

And I agree, let's not forget to agree in action as well as prayer. I've come to care greatly about all of you. I've never seen such heart in ANY online community. I'll say it again. You're just the best.

I just hope that somehow the court can be convinced that Terri is NOT in a PVS, and that she is disabled, instead!
