Okay, thanks for that. I've seen a few AKM's and invariably they were the 5.45 version. I mistakenly assumed that was the only way they came...

AK-74: Newest version to see front line service.

I think there's one that's newer still. It has a high cyclic rate for 3 rds then cycles lower.... neat stuff...

I can't remember the nomenclature for that weapon, but it was featured in SGN a while ago. The system for cyclic reduction is coupled to a system that uses a cable and pulleys. Longevity isn't known yet. They aren't issued to anyone except for FSB agents so far. Not exactly a front-line battle rifle.

I'll weigh in on the side of the FN/FAL Para 1st and the M1A second. I use my AR or my AK for plinking, not serious shooting.
