Now, the world's WORST weapon was the French Chauchat.
Here is a VERY CHARITABLE review of the weapon. Even in this review, they still need to concede it's 'somewhat poor reputation'.
My great-uncle, who had a chance to mess with it, says that choosing to throw rocks is a much better choice than bearing the Chauchat.
I got to handle one of those things when I was a kid. Handle, not shoot. It was a Deactivated War Trophy.
It was heavy as sin and crudely made.
On a History Channel special on WWI weapons a firearms expert said that it was so poorly made that parts were not interchangeable between weapons.
You're right. Worst...Weapon...EVER!
I've seen that on the History Channel a couple of times.
What utter folly - a magazine with holes in the side (to hold the wine and cheeze?) and manufacturing quality so piss poor that parts were not interchangable with individual weapons.
The sad part was that it was strictly a politcal decision that forced this crap on our troops - they could not use our own weapons!
Another good reason that pol's need to stay the hell out of the business of conducting war.
