AR is so Democrat that Huckabee's decision probably makes no difference as to the GOP prospects there. I cannot imagine any Republican even making a strong race for this permanently Democrat seat.

AR isn't that overwhelmingly Democrat any longer. Their pockets of power are eroding. Republicans control most all the western counties than include cities like Ft. Smith, Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville, etc. where most of the real business is done. Those areas are home to Tyson, Wal-Mart, Popeye spinach, Daisy Rifles, and many others.
The manufacturing base around Little Rock has dwindled more and more and some of the eastern farm counties have voted more Republican in recent years. Especially around Stuttgart.
The Hutchinson brothers (I always get Tim and Asa confused as to who has what job) were very popular, one a 6 year Senator until he got stupid and lost in 2002 to Mark Pryor and one the heir apparent to the long held GOP western congressional district owned by John Paul Hammerschmidt.
If the untainted Hutchinson, Asa I think- currently in the Homeland Security Dept., decides to run he could beat Lincoln. Her support is only a tepid 51-52%.
But Huckabee was the one the GOP wanted. But he recently caved on tax hikes like other GOP govs and he lost some luster.
I'll be back visiting Ark in October and I'll be sure to catch up on the chatter.
