The press,radio,television is not required to print/air my manuscript or letter to the editor but I cannot be jailed/fined for taking an unpopular position.
Public land is accessible by all. No one asked for "free megaphones" or posterboard.
One group threatened violence against another to shut them up. Those threats were backed up back action. The teamsters were "hired" muscle.
Your take is that actions have consequences, that free speech means that there may be responses to that speech. The public can boycott Don Adams' business. His employer may not be able to fire him simply for protesting offsite on his own time. His acquaintances may cease to be his friend for the position he takes.
Has anyone alleged that he was inciting a crowd to riot? That is the only charge that could be levelled at Don Adams' that would legally justify a violent response.
The assault is not to be considered a "consequence" of going to protest a public appearance any more than vandalism of your car should be considered a factor in putting a bumper sticker on your car.
I don't want to live in a world where someone would kill me because I hold the wrong viewpoint so I have to hold my tongue. People died guaranteeing that freedom for America.
