State of Insecurity

How State and Local Immigration Policies areUndermining Homeland Security

FAIR

8/26/03

Introduction

Two years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, conflicting state security policies have become the weakest link in the immigration-related dimensions of U.S. national security.

Despite the federal government's increased push to tie immigration enforcement to national security, states continue to adopt policies that fly in the face of the goals of federal immigration law. Under pressure from foreign governments, some employers, and open borders activists, many states and local jurisdictions are offering safe harbor to illegal aliens.

The members of the next team of Al Qaeda terrorists who find entry into the United States will have an easy time obtaining false documents, because they are easily and inexpensively available to illegal aliens. They may even be able to obtain foreign ID cards that local jurisdictions are encouraging illegal aliens to obtain and use. If they fall into the hands of local authorities, they may be released back into society because of local policies that prevent notification of the immigration authorities. (Several of the 9/11 hijackers slipped unnoticed through the hands of local officials.)

While the federal government has not yet fully slammed shut the doors used for illegal immigration, it is the states and local governments that are rolling out the welcome mat for illegal aliens once they are here.

Unless the White House exerts much stronger leadership in the area of immigration controls, the state patchwork of inconsistent policies will continue to be a primary avenue used by foreign terrorists to exploit weaknesses in the national immigration control system. Congress must also act with an unswerving resolve to ensure strong, reliable immigration controls.

No great shock when you consider the fact that the majority if not all of the 9-11 terrorists were here illegally.

The feds couldn't care less about stopping the flow of illegals.

The State houses are not hearing from us. I think that is where the pressure needs to be placed.

"I think that is where the pressure needs to be placed."

I disagree.

It's the job of the federal government to protect the borders of this nation.
The White House could stop this madness by shutting off our borders.
Then it wouldn't make any difference what the states did or did not do.

Aren't the Feds mainly supposed to be protecting our country from enemies. Well, they are telling us how to regulate sexual practices (Texas Sodomy law) and leaving our borders wide open. Everything is backward...and upside down.

This is Orwellian.... totally topsy turvy. The feds are supposed to be securing the borders and dealing with domestic dilemmas first, not chasing all over the world doing the bidding of multinational corporations.... or hobnobbing with the vile likes of Pat Rob-em-blind, et al, and promoting 'faith-based charities.' This has got to stop, IMO. Soon, too.

You are correct of course, that is the way it "should be". But nothing is as it should be. I have to wonder if the politicians in D.C. are seeing the individual states, who are suppose to be closer to the will of the people, welcoming illegals in, and this may make them hesitant to act.

If pressure is brought to bear on the state houses of the border states by irate citizens, D.C. may be forced to move.

It is because of the likes of Tom Daschle on the Democrat side who see more votes, and the likes of President Bush on the Republican side who see more campaign dollars from certain business leaders that this problem will go on until our destruction. Yes I am saying that the members of our government are seeking our destruction!

I cannot argue the evidence, at the very least they are indifferent to it.

The administration seems to be impressed by the pressure brought by the Mexican elites. If any controls are put on immigration from Mexico, that country will face a Revolution ---- the elites don't care to improve conditions of course but they'd like to hang in as long as possible to get as much wealth from there they can.

Speaking of the Mexican elites. Over at v-dare Alan Wall has a great piece about the Mexican foreign secretary all but saying that they control our "immigration" policy and that is they way its going to be.
