Black conservative pingIf you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

So can we conclude that no one at SI has any political opinions or that they all pass the PC litmus test???

Peter King, their "Monday Morning QB" on cnnsi.com and a regular contributor to the print mag is an unreconstructed Leftist. He regularly tosses political commentary into his pieces (and recently stated something to the effect that his life could not continue without the presence of NPR). Add to that the fact he's a North Jersey shill for New York sports and you can see he's a poster boy for jackasses.

Good article.
One friendly word of caution, however. I have just reviewed a leftist "academic" journal article that uses the word "fascist" in a perjorative, authoritarian sense. Fascism is an economic system, as defined in the dictionary. There may be a different meaning in psychological circles, but the word is never defined and the meaning is picked up by context.
We need to be careful about using that word in the same way.
Cheers, 'Pod

Economic control is what the leftists want and fascism is also typified by ruthless suppression of opposition. I've always referred to modern liberalism as "the new fascism" and I think it fits quite nicely. However, I do respect your opinion so I'll ask around and see if others also feel it is over the top.

That was a good explanation. I guess my reaction was because the Left always accuses us of being "fascist."

the Assistant Managing Editor for Sports IllustratedWhy do you keep repeating the tiresome phrase above, instead of simply saying, "Johnson"? After the third or fourth time, I stopped reading.

The word
fascist has lost much of its meaning precisely because it has been used inaccurately for so long. When you hear a Berkeley student refer to a champion of classical liberalism (i.e. the old Conservatism) as a
fascist, the game's pretty much over.
I would be more direct in my description of the Left as it exists today. Rather than the "fascism" of modern liberalism, it is the tyranny of modern liberalism that presents such a threat.

I don't know what Bob J will answer, but I would say, "His name isn't worth repeating."

Not really.

I thought that was just his way of drawing attention -- again and again and again -- to the fact that the offending piece appeared in SI.

It's important to drive home the fact that Johnson wrote this article not only a representative and writer for SI but also as it's Assistant Managing Editor. He's the guy who is supposed to make sure other writers articles stay on topic and don't seque into areas SI should not be concerned with. In my opinion, he abused his power and authority for personal reasons and should be taken to task for it by his superiors at SI.
