Yet Reagan failed to end the Department of Education, continued to fund US involvement in the UN, bailed out of Lebanon at the first sign of trouble, signed a tax increase in 1986, granted amnesty to illegal aliens, and as Governor placed state withholding on paychecks, signed a tax increase in 1967, and signed the nation's most liberal abortion bill.
I love the guy, but even he compromised when it wasn't essential to the big picture.

Who cares if he rebult the American military, prepared the way for the greatest peacetime expansion of the U.S. economy, took down the Evil Soviet Empire, and made people proud to be Americans...

So, the "true conservatives" would very likely not vote for RR either? Good, screw them to the outside wall and win without them... that's what I would like to see. They have moral majoritied us right into the ground.

THEY wanted to spend our national attention on "getting billary" when wiser heads in conservative circles were raising concerns about our intelligence community, our vulnerabilities to invasion and attack... at a time when NO legislative body on EARTH would have ever convicted the "sink master".

We should have been satisfied with discrediting the guy and moving on to deal with the weightier matters that brought on 9/11 and the intifada... selling our missile technology to China and so on. Some conservatives brought up the issues, but the "TRUE BELIEVER conservatives" wanted to collect samples and prosecute him for depositing his dna in the sink and trashcans, and certain parts of monica's anatomy... in the oval office.

We should have had OUR minds on other priorities... even if the bent one did not.

We are straining over the moral battles (granted very important but), while losing the overall wars over life and death for 260 million americans...

"What is more important, LIFE, or stopping arab terrorists"

"What is more important, LIFE or getting your precious tax cut."

and on and on and on....
ronald knew how to deal with these folks, use them for votes when you can... and flush them when they get too extreme for the good of the Nation.
