Of course not.
You have to understand that some of these people would not vote for a Dog Catcher, if he was rumored to support abortion.

Of course I think he plans to raise taxes, precisely because he has promised not to touch education funding, but he won't promise not to raise taxes.
This is the same thing Pete Wilson did in 1990--"Oh, of course, taxes are too high, I don't want to raise taxes, but I won't take a pledge."
Then he won, and in 1991 he raised taxes. Same with Bob Riley (Ala.), Sonny Perdue (Ga.), Kenny Guinn (Nev.). What makes you think Arnold is different? The fact that he said "tax" five times in a row at his press conference? Sorry--take the pledge, then I'll believe it.
Moreover, I can prove that he will raise taxes. It is a near-mathematical impossibility to preserve Prop 98 spending (46% of the budget) at its present level without raising taxes, and still balance the budget. Arnold sold out to the teachers' unions, whom he met with last Monday, to make that promise, so you see how he deals with "special interests." So do you think he's going to take on every entrenched union and interest group by cutting 25% of the remaining budget?!! (Remember, this is from a guy who can't name even one item to cut from the budget--he needs a 60-day audit first!) I don't even think McClintock could get away with that, but fortunately he won't have to, since he hasn't put education spending off the table--the teachers' union didn't even bother to invite Tom to talk to them.
Just you wait. Arnold the Lightweight will do his 60-day audit he needs to learn something about California's budget, and then he'll announce that the situation is much worse than he thought, and he needs a tax hike.
You can avoid this by supporting someone you agree with on at least one issue.

I wish someone would update Arnold's website. It's been like that for at least a week now.

I know that If Arnie was a real Republican the Kennedys would have killed him years ago.Whoa.
A real deep thinker, hm?
BTW, I was reminded this morning that Rob Lowe was one of the few celebrities to come out before the war started, not only in support of the war, but said the best way to support it was to back President Bush.
Now, I know, that will be a big nothing for some, but to me it indicates he might not be the raving lib some have stated here. (maybe he is turning from lib to conservative---one can always hope)
Celebrity Hawks
Excerpt:
Rob Lowe, Sheens former co-star on The West Wing, told Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends" on Monday that Americans should support our armed forces, and that the best way to do that is to support our commander in chief.

That's exactly why I was curious about the reported 17% for McC, earlier on this thread.
My election practice is identical to yours, except in the case where the vote is totally meaningless--and here, there have been such times (e.g., where the Dem is so far ahead that a vote for Howie Phillips is just fine.)
But if McC gained about 50% (from 12 to 17) in the last week, and Aaaahhhhnold has STILL not laid out a plan, and McC is campaigning effectively--
It Ain't Over. No fat lady tunes yet.

Red herring. I don't participate in children's games when I'm considering who I will vote for. If you will check your Kindergarten candidate thread you will find that I supported your position there.

Before I "go" -- I appreciate your interest in dialogue and learning what can be learned. This matter of what to do with an "appealing" RINO is something that takes much thought -- and research is helpful, too.
We're very used to this scenario in Illinois and definitely we have a cautionary tale to tell.

How do you expect to win an election, if all you are doing is running against your own party?Precisely:
"That was another thing I will never forgive the Republican Party for. We spent one year wasting time because there was a human failure. I was ashamed to call myself a Republican during that period. Instead of devoting all this energy and all those hearings to how we're going to solve the problems of the inner cities. . . . No, it's like, 'This man has to be removed from office because he's a national threat.' Yeah, that's a good one."
--Arnold Schwarzenegger, November 1999 issue of George Magazine.

I know you're willing to consider Tom, and I think that's good. But I disagree with Bush--he would not make a good governor.

I mean, Arnold would not make a good governor.

It happens. Look at comedian Dennis Miller who was a liberal not too very long ago. :-)
To: DoughtyOne
What is this fascination with McClintock all about?
He seems rather arrogant and aloof, and his tactics of overtly criticizing other Republicans are also very NON-Reagan-like.
He reminds me of Paul Tsongas, clearly the most qualified of the field of Democrats in '92, but he could never connect with the people, he seemed to feel above us all.
McClintock's similar approach will not sell in California. I lived there a long time, have many relatives and friends there now, and another candidate with no charisma after Davis just is not going to prevail, whether a liberal or a conservative. Arnold's enthusiasm will inspire more voters, and his "common man" approach (a fantasy now, but he did achieve his financial success on his own) will probably resonate with many from both ends of the spectrum. And he does have a developing plan. He's been a candidate for less than 3 weeks, and everyone expects him 100% on message. Not very realistic.
Republicans need to win, and purity of principles seems as hopeless in Calif. as in New York and New Jersey. And the Republican party IS an inclusive one.
Some of you would have it down to 2 or 3 members, with those (other than yourselves) suspect as well.
If you fragment the party then we will end up like many nations of the world, multiple parties having to form coaltions to gain power. And that is ALL about compromise. The last thing you seem to want.

To: DoughtyOneI've grown accustomed to this with the Arnold crowd and it's made me think less of their position. Why would you resort to the same? Believe me, this will hurt, not
help your position.
