I figure it's "I'll-scratch-your-back-you-scratch-mine" in the liberal Martha's Vineyard/cocktail party/friends crowd, the same way as it is among so many groups of people. Geragos might do some favor(s) for some high-muckety-muck at People, and then later he cashes in his "chip", asking them as a favor to do a story slanted in his direction. Which they have now done.
