Of course, there was a time when the kicker was a position player. For example, when Steve Spurrier was QB at Florida, he was also the place kicker. Lou Groza was a linebacker, and George Blanda was a QB even though both were better known for being kickers. I think that it would be interesting if they made the rule in football that in order to be eligible as a kicker, you have to be a positional player, and not just a kicking specialist.

If you want to coach, you have to teach a REAL course at the university.
