ASI indicates temple existed

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ MONDAY, AUGUST 25, 2003 01:17:11 PM ]

LUCKNOW: The Archaelogical Survey of India's report on excavation at the disputed site in Ayodhya was opened on Monday before a three-member special full Bench of the Allahabad High Court hearing Ram Janambhhomi-Babri Masjid title suits.

The report has concluded that evidence of an ancient Hindu temple had been found at the excavation site, according to a Hindu side counsel, Ranjana Agnihotri.

However, Jafarayab Jilani of the All India Sunni Central Waqf Board said that the ASI report is contradictory and they will challenge it.

The report, submitted in the court on Friday last, opened at 10.30 am soon after the Bench comprising Justice S R Alam, Justice Bhanwar Singh and Justice Khemkaran, met.

Three sets of the report were opened for the Bench which also spoke to the ASI team leader Hari Majhi who informed the court that its first part contained ASI's opinion while the second had maps and drawings.

The court has granted six weeks time to all the contesting parties for filing objections, if any.

I guess the Sunni Muslims had their challenge ready

They challenged it the only way they know how.

Many if not most of the older mosques were all built upon the ruins of Hindu temples (ruined for the purpose) or even actual Hindu temples that had been ransacked and turned into mosques. Claims of Muslim architecture are vastly over-rated. When the Muslims occupied India, they forced into servitude large numbers of skilled artisans and intelligentsia to work in Muslim countries, since the Hindus were such a highly advanced culture. If only they had been more militarily strong at that time.
