What (men) do women want?

Do conservative women look for different qualities of masculinity in men than liberal women do? Is sex appeal not so much in the eye, but in a point of view? Do young Republicans and young Democrats have different ideas about "hooking up" (which is what young people call pairing off).

Like everything else in the soft science of psychology, it depends on the interpretation you read. Data can be dada. My favorite survey of the season was made by the Independent Women's Forum, a conservative woman's organization that contends with radical feminism with long red nails, good looks, educated smarts and a sense of humor. At the end of every summer, IWF interviews Capitol Hill interns who work in congressional offices during their summer vacations.

I'd take Christopher Walken myself...

if I hadn't been busy as all hell today, I'd have been strung up right beside chris1 - I have made extensive observations which are closely similar to his, though I don't believe I would have expressed them so crudely.

Rather than worrying about what sort of man one ought be, it's always made more sense to me to be the man I am. More fun too.

What I've noticed is that the "Nice Guy" gets no respect because he tolerates not getting respect.

Exactly! Not only does he tolerate it, in some ways he actually suggests it. He writes the "script" for her.

Crude???? I'm shocked! I tell like it is and pull no punches. I have attractive girl friends who get no dates because they are not sluts and have a lot of self respect. I also know some taudry, not that attractive, women who get plenty of dates because they appear as the type to "put out." Women - Listen to me - the sluts among you, ala sex in the city, are ruining the men's attitudes towards you.

I think conservative people tend to marry younger--I am of the theory that waiting to pass certain "life milestones" may not be wisdom, even if it is conventional. Once a man sleeps around, how capable of faithfulness is he? He has only demonstrated to himself the commodities that bodies represent, and comes to regard them as exchangeable.

A conservative man is often ready to marry earlier, and a smart conservative gal will pick up on that and make it possible.

Then they have to work out the inevitable changes that take place in any life, and grow together, or grow apart.

The best reliable indicator of being able to sustain a long marriage is similarity in age, class, and values (including spiritual).

If you pick a partner from a messed-up home, hoping to bring about a "rescue"--beware. Children of the dysfunctional marriage tend to create dysfunctional marriages.

I also agree with the assertion that many, many women have a neurotic masochistic streak. This can also emerge in women's relationships with other women, so I don't see how it can be denied, any more than men can deny how many of them struggle with a neurotic attraction to those far younger than them.

I agree. If you look at how men and women typically deal with interpersonal disputes you will see many differences between the two sexes. For example - Two guys get in a fight or argument. Both usually can get along after that with little or no problems. Women - grudges, self doubt, analysis, and the inability to move on from the negative fight.

I'd add that the knights in shining armor exist. It's just that the women are too busy enjoying the attention garnered by complaining about the bad guy that they get irked when help arrives. If they don't get irked, they use the knight to infuse jealousy into the situation so that the bad guy will spoil them a little just to keep them around. The knights are tired of those who cry wolf and urge them into battle against shadows. This knight would rather the damsel slew the bad man herself then prove herself worthy of his interests at this point.

Great analysis. I would buy it! Time to go oil my armor.

You do realize what you're asking, don't you? Asking Chad to behave is like asking Herbie Hancock to play "Heart and Soul" (not "Body and Soul" - "Heart and Soul") on a 12-inch Casio piano (I mean, it's possible, but...). It is the very definition of "tall order".

LOL. For a few months now, I’ve been learning some “unmanageability” lessons.

Actually, Chad is one of my favorite posters - both when he’s serious and even on those rare, very rare, occasions when he’s not being so serious. He’s got a great attitude and a first-rate sense of humor.

I just wish I could stay up later. ;-)

Exactly! Not only does he tolerate it, in some ways he actually suggests it. He writes the "script" for her.

One quality that women seem to like is "ability", which ties in with a desire for security. The most security comes from a man who can handle any threat or situation, who won't be pushed around. But if he can be pushed around by his woman, that shakes her confidence in his ability to not be pushed around by others

I concur. It would be hard to find someone on FreeRepublic that Chad hasn't been able to make laugh and smile.

Now I want my fruit cup. ; )

Everyone who gathered around Christ for his salvation was part of his Christian church.

Absolutely.

If you think Jesus never built the church, you are mistaken.

He built people around him that were the basis for 'the church'.

If you think that same chuch has disappeared, you are blind.

I just don't think those people necessarily 'go to church'.

There are plenty of people walking with God in many christian churches.

Absolutely.

A person standing by himself is never a church.

I was really discussing the difference between Modern forms of Christianity and what Jesus appeared to be teaching. The building is not the church, as you mentioned. A person that does not 'go into a church' can still 'go to church', and be a man of God.

It would be appreciated a lot more if there was some kind of context - me apologizing to two ladies for what was obviously a knuckle-dragging moment on my part, and you reply to that with 'Get a room' is, well, just plain odd :0)

My apology. The comment was related to the discussion you all were having, and the explanations about how you were really such a nice guy, you were just playing a jerk on the internet, etc, etc, etc. It was getting a little mushy.

Therefore I tossed in the 'get a room' comment.
