McClintock Facing Republican Threats?
Belly of the Beast Blog ^ | August 24, 2004 | Eric Hogue

Now that Bill Simon has left the building, State Senator Tom McClintock currenlty has the 'only growing campaign'. I'm reading the LA Times article on Simon's departure this morning and I find this nugget of political muscle.

No. There is a still a vote on the ballot if the recall should be done.

The dictate is there, for the recall election is on the ballot. That's my point. Sorry if I didn't do a good job of making that clear to you.

McClintock is not some tame kitty-cat that is going to roll over if the liberal wing of the Republican party scratches his stomach. He is more like a wild cat: arch his back, extend his claws, and hiss.

California politics could be good entertainment for the next few weeks.

False.

From 1992-1994, McClintock served as Director of the Center for the California Taxpayer, a project of the National Tax Limitation Foundation.

In 1995, McClintock was named Director of Economic and Regulatory Affairs for the Claremont Institute's Golden State Center for Policy Studies, a position he held until his return to the Assembly.

Hell, let's make him king.

Yes! King of the film industry! He obviously has cornered THAT market. Politics, however? We will see as his campaign unfolds.

Mona Charen:
Schwarzenegger is unpredictable. Some libertarians believe he is one of them. Let's hope so. But so far, his campaign rhetoric is dismally familiar. He's gonna kick out the "special interests" and run the state for the benefit of the people. How original. Ross Perot said the same thing in a different accent.

And Perot was full of baloney.

Tom McClintock is a Republican! I am not. He's my ideal choice to replace Gray Davis. But, what you don't seem to understand, is that no matter who replaces Gray Davis, things can't get any worse! So, why should I, (a conservative), vote for the lesser candidate?

Right on! Simon was a businessman. That's why he could stand on principle and back out of the race, when he saw his involvement would only hurt. To a professional politician like McClintock, that's impossible to do. His personal ambition trumps the best interests of all. It's the same reason why guys like McClintock don't quit after endorsing term limits.

THAT in itself should make T. McClintock a forerunner in this re-election effort. After all isn't it a spending problem that brought California to this situation in the first place?

And people could vote "NO" on that part after watching the campaigns and deciding they haven't been convinced why Davis should still go.

It is not a done deal.

That is why McClintock ought to be directing his fire at Davis and Bustamante.

You're voting for a guy who can't win because things can't get any worse.

OOOOKKKAAYYY (backs away slowly) Yeah I like your logic there. Makes a lot of sense.

Arnold is another Ross Perot. Gonna get under the hood and study the problem.

I suspect that those CRP "leaders" who jumped on the Arnold bandwagon were driven more by opportunism and patronage prospects than liberalism.

"Try acting like the Republican Party and stop aligning with the tactics of the Democrat Party - the party of control!"
Good suggestion...

So we both agree, that the McClintock people ought to knock it off with the politics of personal destruction as in:

And if Mc and team really refuses to make "nice"... then it should be easy to understand that the national party won't countenance their slanders and divisive politics with full party support in any upcoming elections... It's not a "new" way of dealing with party rebels... it's established party discipline. It's what you coul consider a "Get in, or get out" party discipline.

Mc will either get in line with the party's directives on this key election, or leave the party, or lose in disgrace next year.

It's not blackmail. It's actually the concept of choosing to be a team player or being seen as an active spoiler tool of the democrats, in an election that could actually begin to undo the damage of democratic tyranny over our state.

Don't worry though. Mc IS going to be a team player and will back out in the week prior to the election... which I suspect is part of the repulbican "strategery".

PS... The party would say the same if they thought Arnold was playing "spoiler" with political control of the planet's fifth largest economy at stake. And I would say it too.

If Mc is ahead prior to the election and has not dropped out, I will vote for him... but reality is, he won't be ahead.. and he won't be in the election at that point. He WILL do as he is told, or leave the party... I rather suspect he is actually "in on the strategery" of this... and will play a prominent role in saving California's economy, should arnold actually win.

Yea... I personally think Issa got his arm twisted very hard by people in DC to get out

The national party and Arnold had nothing to do with this recall and now they take it over... pushing there same “run left” in California

If Arnold gets in I just feel its going to end up bad not just for the state but the whole party

We could have:

1. Arnold's win will be hailed at the new direction (the way to “win”) for the Republican party and there will be a strong pull to the left

2. Arnold will not govern “right” (hard cuts in spending and taxes) on the fiscal issues at best he will be a moderate ( mild cuts, raise taxes) ... this will not fix the state, CA will tank and Republicans and there "Idea" will take the blame

3. After getting in Arnold will be courted by the Democrats to switch parties I’m sure Arnold wife, Uncle Ted and Arnold Hollywood buddy have been trying to get him to switch for a while

On positions Arnold is already a Democrat

If Arnold win as a Republican in the recall and the dem then get him to switch......................the dem will over him the keys to the kingdom to get it... he would be the star of there convention

"A nation of well informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the region of ignorance that tyranny begins".

A quote I borrowed from another thread! It is a quote worth contemplation to say the least! Any idea as to who the quoter is?
