Baghdad, Iraq-AP -- An attack today apparently targeted one of the most prominent Shiite Muslim clerics in Iraq.

A bomb went off outside the home of Mohammed Saeed al-Hakim in the holy city of Najaf (NAH'-jahf). Three guards were killed and several other people were injured, including family members. The cleric himself reportedly suffered scratches on his neck.

The bomb went off after midday prayers. The explosive was made up of a gas cylinder wired to explode.

Iraqi newspapers had reported last week that al-Hakim had received threats against his life. He was also among a group of three top Shiite leaders who were threatened with death by a rival cleric shortly after Saddam Hussein was toppled.

My first reaction was Delta Force, but I am unfamiliar with the situation.

Yeah right, we can build a "democratic and unitary state" in the medieval hell-hole. Tell me another one.

The current fine is a $25 fine for not blocking CNN on your cable or dish system.

Then, there is a $ per day donation to Free Republic for even turning CNN on.

CNN has been blocked at our house, the day that our Dish system was installed. The installer wanted to know if I had any channels I wanted blocked. I said, "Yes, block CNN!"

He laughed and did it while showing me how to do it.

All Disney channels are blocked on our system.

Sigh. Another item to add to the "to-do" list.

But I *never* go there, couldn't even tell you which "100" range it is found. FNC is 360, Speed is 607, History is 169, and that's about all I need to know.

This war's major combatants includes a religion.

The concept of religious war is unusual to people living today, but there is nothing unusual about it in history. Catholic popes were leading forces into battle only a few centuries ago.

America will lose this war if the warring wings of Islam are not clipped with overwhelming force.

"Evildoers are going down."

If these vigilantes haven't been watching Charles Bronson's "Death Wish" movies, I suggest we send them some copies for further inspiration.

Yeah, all those bombings. Dozens killed, prominent politicians assassinated. warring ethnic groups.

Guess we have to give up on the notion of democracy in that medieval, Catholic hell-hole of Spain, don't we?

You are to the left of Thomas Friedman of the NYT. His editorial, thread on FR yesterday, supports the hard work our soldiers are doing in Iraq, although he just couldn't resist making a few "suggestions".

Austin - I am reminded yesterday you asked what Iraq had done to the United States. I reminded you of their links with AQ, which you disputed.

I then linked approx. 6 of 100's of articles which provide those links and you NEVER responded. I gather you never read them, either.

Wouldn't want to let a little thing like facts stand in your way.

Perhaps you also didn't know that several members of Congress believe and want investigations into the OKC bombing and the first WTC attack. Several NYC FBI agents believe, as well as others in the former Clinton administration believe, that Iraq was behind those attacks, in the first using our own homegrown militants to do most of the actual dirty work.

But, again, don't let a few little facts get in the way of your views.

Good links, Ragtime Cowgirl. The left tries to dominate the discussion and it's made increasingly more difficult for them with the access to the internet and to some extent Fox News.
