Much of (Arnolds) strategy is based on cross over appeal to non-Republican voters given his comparitvely moderate views on issues such as gun control, abortion and gay rights.

But less than two weeks into his first run for elected office, Schwarznegger has already become a politically polarizing figure.

Roughly seven in ten Democratic voters have an unfavorable impression of the action-movie star, while the same number of likely Republican voters expressed a favorable view.

The actor won the support of 39% of likely Republican voters, 20% of Independents, and 7% of Democrats polled.

McClintock recieved 21% of the Republican vote, Simon recieved 12% and Uberroth 10%.

Mostly I agree.. and I will align with the conservatives as long as they represent MORE of my values then the other sides.

There are a few points where I am STRONGLY against the "conservatives" and will have to take sides if that becomes a serious consideration.

Well I'm a conservative. Haven't really followed your posts and don't really know your stances, but I can promise you that most of the fringe you meet on FR (which is not all of FR) are not representative of mainstream conservatism in America today.

"And you're still busted. Buh-bye"

just curious - what is it that you have think you "won" ?

Certainly not "who I am" ? ( If you are really smart you could have found my home number and called me by now - I'm in the book ... you do have a Heidelburg Phone directory don't you ? :-)

Take my page to heart..It's not a simple rebuke but an admonation to become more then you presently are...

McClintock has no ego i.e.

"I'm not getting out of this race, my poll numbers have doubled in one week and they will continue to climb, I am going to win this race, you'll see and you won't be sorry!"

HA!!!

Meanwhile McClintock continues to slam and gleefully mock Arnold as if he was his only opponent, blissfully and ignorantly unaware that Arnold is the only republican with a chance.

That's not an ego?

That's an ego, in fact, it's so big it is safe to assume that McClintock is quite the jerk.

I am praying that the Republican Machine tells McClintock to get lost. The way I see it, Arnold is 12 points behind the leading Democrat, all while McClintock has 12 percent support. Let me do the math. I am starting to really detest McClintock. From what I understand, he has made a career out of politics. It's all he knows.

McClintock doesn't sound to bright, pissing off a very large segment of Republican Voters. I take it that 39% of the Republican who are supporting Arnold won't be thinking much of McClintock the day after the elections.

I hope McClintock has another career he can fall back on, (although I doubt it being that he's a life-time politican).

FLAG on the play. ... FLAG on the play.

I thought it was pretty funny. People who scream, tell us about their resume, etc., instead of arguing the point, generally deserve ridicule. As do you, you flaming hypocrite, for what does your own post do but go ad hominem? How 'bout you never post to me again, sweets?

Thanks for the smart-mouth reply.

I'd say the response was entirely appropriate to the idiotic, hysterical post in question, chuckles. If you don't like it, pucker up.

Now do you support the RINO???Sort of. I think McClintock's got the best policies. But I don't think he's likely to be elected. I'm supporting both candidates here until the final couple weeks of the election -- but it's interesting that more drooling, histrionic screaming attacks by far are coming from "McClintock or Bust(amante)!" types.

Ooooo. Struck a nerve, huh? I notice you didn't counter my statement, but decided to TRY to attack me personally.

What part of what I said wasn't true?

I await other FReepers opinion on this.

but if he keeps digging at Arnold, and especially the crossover issues that will get Arnold elected, he can join Davis on the scrapheap.

Crossover issues like...Arnold being for gun control. Arnold being for abortion. Arnold hating Republicans for impeaching Clinton. Arnold being for useless big government programs like Prop. 49's afterschool thing. Arnold being against any Prop. 187-like limitations on benefits to illegal aliens. These are the "crossover issues" that are appealing to the unsavory types that you're trying to attract. And you call yourself a Republican!? Why don't you just run a Democrat if you're only trying to get the most votes above everything else? What's the point?

Either conservative principles are right and worth promoting or they're not. Either conservative policies are the best thing to save California or they are not. Either the Republican Party is the vehicle for electing representatives who will promote conservative principles - or it isn't.

Right now, with the Democrats in disarray and failed liberal policies obviously destroying the state of California, is the best time - an extremely rare alignment of the planets - for electing a true conservative. Yet so many Republicans are getting distracted by Arnold's star power and forgetting why we're Republicans in the first place. They are about to waste the perfect tactical opportunity to elect a real conservative because it is far easier to just go with Arnold and not do the work to get McClintock elected.

This could be the finest hour - the opportunity to prove that liberal policies are destructive and that conservative policies can succeed, save a nearly bankrupt state, and prove to the rest of the nation that we need conservative policies everywhere. We might be able to save California through true conservative ideas and capitalize on that victory to advance the conservative message nationwide. Or you can elect an inexperienced RINO and cross your fingers and hope. And if, somehow, purely by luck alone, the RINO appears to save California all we have is a victory for RINO, non-conservative principles. Thereby, the cause of conservatism would suffer a serious blow.

Sure, but there is NO time for McClintock to get the Dems that will crossover to Arnold that we MUST have to win the election.

If we get the current batch of "I'd rather have McClintock, but Arnold is our only chance" voters to actually vote their preference, Arnold can have the Dem crossover votes (drawn from Bustamante, I might add). McClintock will then have a strong enough showing to win. You folks keep forgetting that we have a very strong campaign theme to run on. Namely, that a vote for Bustamante is a vote for all the things that made the recall necessary in the first place. Unlike McClintock, Arnold is not articulating specifics at this point. Mind you, I think that Arnold is a decent guy, a man of good will, and someone who can be reasoned with (all of which immediately makes him superior to any California Democrat I'm aware of). However, McClintock knows California politics intimately, and has articulated both the problems and a number of proposed solutions. All Arnold has given us so far is essentially "things suck, and when I get in there, I'll fix them."

So right now we have a choice of a charismatic actor who's dabbled in some aspects of politics, socially liberal, MAYBE fiscally conservative, married into one of the most die-hard Democrat families in history, who hasn't given specific solutions to anything, vs. a social and fiscal conservative with political seasoning, who well before the recall was pointing out the problems and working to take action to solve them, and who has been rising significantly in the polls in recent days as he gets more media exposure. And we're supposed to throw in the towel on the latter as soon as the opening bell sounds? How ridiculous.

what does the California Congressional delegation look like and to what extent does its make up confirm your rebuttal that California is a conservative state, not a liberal state?
Great question. I'll answer you question with a question (I hate that, but if fits) how do those same questions apply to the state of Texas? Is that state liberal?

>

Okay, that's fair. So let's look deeper. What of the Senate seats and the state government seats? And the governor's mansion. Do those results also support your position that California is a majority conservative state that longs to see a conservative available to elect?

Right. Surely it couldn't be that he is at least slightly more conservative than Davis/Bustamante and would support President Bush in 2004, right?

He can support Bush in 2004 without being the Governator. As for being "slightly more conservative" than Red Davis/Bustamove, that's not very reassuring.

No, sweets, I didn't attack you except as a hypocrite. (That means you're attacking me personally in a post criticizing me for attacking someone personally. See? That's how it works.) You did so by saying, "See how easy it is to slip into RAT tactics once you take the first few steps?," in response to my poking gentle fun at someone for USING ALL CAPS and hilariously seeking to win approval of his arguments by claiming I'M A RADIO TALK SHOW HOST!! as if that has any logical appeal. My pointing out the obvious, namely that such is a stupid, illogical argument, isn't really personal; it's more like lampooning.

So, there's ONE part of what you said, sweets, that wasn't true.

And there WASN'T any other substance to your post to me, sweetiepie. All there was, was your effete flag-waving hysterics and "RAT!" insult.

Don't back channel me in an argument. It's beneath a true FReeper.

Scuse me? when you get things right I can address them..
as far as being "for abortion" I dont think he is FOR abortion but simply allowing a person the right to decide what goes on within their bodies --- I don't see a "kill your kid" movement
