Alcolholism is the fault of '60s ideology?

I know. That struck me also as ideological overkill. Nuff to be said against the 60's without going overboard. And there is clearly nothing the went on in the 60's that isn't still going on today, along with the addition of gangsta rap, rave parties and professional hit-and-run terrorists of all stripes.

In the 60's, you got busted for having a strobe light in your dorm room and burning incense. The vast majority of the college campus protests in the 60's were not about Vietnam, but about things like student fees and dorm hours being too strict. I truly wish some of these 'true blue' conservatives would stop mindless rants against 'hippies' (whatever that perjorative terms is meant to designate) and realize that the blame for what is wrong with America can be spread a little wider than that.

Well said.

Human nature transcends ideology. Its strengths and weaknesses are demonstrated by individuals. Some ideologies are better than others at encouraging the former and discouraging the latter. None can change it.

The young of each generation are smart enough to see the faults and hypocrisy of their parents - the differences between what they say and what they do. But very, very rarely can they see farther. As a result each generation repeats the mistakes of the grandparents and great-grandparents.
